Bill Maher recently made some comments about Western civilisation, directed at young people. He said that young people don't know what Western civilisation is about and pointed out that white people do not hold a monopoly on inflicting horrors on other people:

"I want to… say something about Western civilization. Kids, you don’t know what the f*ck it is. They think Western means white—and white means bad. First of all, everything bad that white people did, people of color did it, too. The Japanese before World War II and during World War II. And Genghis Khan, and I could go on and on."

Maher then went on to state that young people should not ask Billie Eilish or Chappell Roan about Western civilisation because their and the left's ideas of said civilisation are just oppression:

"The left is very down on America, very down on the West. And it’s ironic because the West has also given us everything that makes your life good here. Don’t ask Billie Eilish or Chappell Roan about what the Western values are, because they’ll just say it’s about oppression. But it’s not about oppression."

The commenter went on to say that Western civilisation is actually about the rule of law, respect for minorities, and so on and wished that schools taught that again:

"It’s about rule of law. It’s about respect for minorities. It’s about democracy. It’s about scientific inquiry. These are all good things that came from the Western world. I wish that schools would teach that again."

Neither Billie Eilish nor Chappell Roan has responded to this statement by Bill Maher as of the writing of this article.

Bill Maher commented on Billie Eilish's anti- ICE speech

Bill Maher also recently commented on Billie Eilish's anti-ICE speech, stating that the singer should not comment on politics at all:

"She said, ‘There’s no illegals on stolen land.’ And she said, ‘It’s hard to know what to say.’ Which I would say, then don’t say anything because you don’t know things. So you didn’t go to school, I don’t think, and you don’t know facts… She said, ‘Voices matter, people matter.’ And I would just say so does knowledge."

Bill Maher then went on to state that he found the fact that the singer was facing flak over her comments to be great. For Context, after Billie Eilish made her Grammy Awards anti-ICE speech, it was revealed by Fox News that she had not talked to the Tongva Tribe about her LA Mansion being on their ancestral land. A law firm, Sinai Law Firm, also offered to represent the tribe in any effort to evict her from her LA mansion.

Billie Eilish also faced criticism from right-wing Australian influencer Drew Pavlou, who joked about moving into her manor because she said there are no illegal people in stolen land. Drew Pavlou later accused Eilish of reporting him to ICE and having him deported. The same kind of response was made by GB News journalist Ben Leo, who actually attempted to confront Eilish at her manor.

Maher has been opposed to immigration in the past. In 2015, he was opposed to the US accepting Syrian refugees, as the refugees might have different values from those held by Americans. However, he also said in 2021 that the US should accept Afghan refugees.
