YouTuber Max Gilardi's shocking livestream on chronic illness reveals he wants doctor-assisted euthanasia

Max Gilardi, the animator and YouTuber who goes by hotdiggedydemon, has been struggling with fibromyalgia for quite some time. In 2024, Gilardi revealed his diagnosis to the world through a live stream. The chronic illness causes him immense fatigue, difficulty in performing basic tasks and has limited his work as an animator.

Max Gilardi can no longer work the way he used to, and his life has become much harder since he was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Over time, he has also been struggling with uncontrollable drooling and tinnitus. In a recent live stream, Gilardi has revealed that he has decided to end his life through doctor-assisted euthanasia.

Why does YouTuber Max Gilardi want to end his life?

Many people watch Max Gilardi's live streams because they find them relaxing. However, as the YouTuber himself said in the live stream, the latest one isn't a relaxing one. On the livestream hosted on August 1, 2026, on Gilardi's YouTube channel, he updated his viewers on his medical condition and how he's doing mentally.

Max Gilardi began the stream by revisiting how his life has been like for the last few years. He talked about how before he got diagnosed with fibromyalgia, he was struggling with something else. Gilardi first talked about how he came to the conclusion that he didn't know what he wanted to do in life. He had reached a point where he didn't find purpose in anything anymore.

Gilardi also said how he had seen a therapist, but that just confirmed that he indeed did not look forward to anything in life. Nothing excited him. Then he was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and now his life is even harder. On the live stream, Max Gilardi explained how he has trouble sleeping, how he struggles with constant pain, constant drooling, the inability to think properly, and his body's inability to regulate its temperature, among other things.

Gilardi then went on to also talk about his credit card debt. As he said on the live stream, his medical condition has led to a lot of medical expenses, which he has had to put on his credit cards. He believes he cannot pay off his debt because he would need to work a lot and earn a lot to do so, which his sickness won't allow.

On the other hand, as Max Gilardi also told his audience, he can't just retire because he's too sick to work. To retire, he would need to make a lot of money to cover his living and medical expenses for the rest of his life. Due to his sickness, he cannot do that much work. Thus, living no longer makes sense to him.

Max Gilardi then dropped the most shocking news in the gentlest way possible: he wants to unalive himself through doctor-assisted euthanasia. He doesn't see a point in living through so much hardship and has thus decided to end his life. In the live stream, Gilardi also said that he understands that many are going to be sad over this news, but he has made this decision because he doesn't want to become a sick old man with no money one day.

He also said that he hopes his audience understands where he is coming from because the only other options he has are assisted living or living with his parents as a grown adult. Max Gilardi doesn't want to choose either of those options. Upon doing research, he has concluded that he can qualify for doctor-assisted euthanasia in Switzerland. In almost all states in the USA, Gilardi wouldn't quality for it because his condition isn't considered fatal.

Max Gilardi hasn't yet figured out how he's going to afford the procedure because it is extremely expensive. However, given how much simply existing is painful for him in every way possible, he thinks it's the best option he has.
