5 General Hospital characters that can save Laura from Sidwell (and 5 who might make things much worse)

On General Hospital, International crime lord, Jenz Sidwell is blackmailing Mayor Laura Collins into compliance. The leverage Sidwell is holding over Laura (Genie Francis) includes photographic evidence of Professor Dalton’s dead body in the trunk of the mayor’s car and the threat of kidnapping and harming her grandson, Ace Cassadine.

At the same time, the mobster is pushing back on the town’s longtime mob boss, and Laura’s friend, Sonny Corinthos, played by Maurice Benard. As such, a helpless Laura seems to give in to Sidwell while secretly planning to bring him down.

1) Sonny Corinthos

As General Hospital fans already know, acquiring Sonny’s piers and his business were significant goals for Sidwell. To help take up Sonny’s business, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) is using Laura to make legal moves. Since Laura and Sonny’s friendship and familial connection go back a long time, they will likely help each other.

Sonny is already part of Sidwell’s long-term target and has helped the mayor by clearing away Dalton’s body. Moreover, the two are collaborating in their plans to expose Sidwell and bring him down. As such, Sonny is the surest ally Laura has in her fight against Sidwell.

2) Valentin Cassadine

Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) may help Laura take down Sidwell for a few reasons. Firstly, Sidwell issued a veiled threat to Charlotte, and Valentin is very protective of his family, particularly his daughter. Moreover, the mobster is threatening Laura with Ace’s safety, and Ace is also a Cassadine, Valentin’s family. Lastly, Valentin wants to return to a normal life and needs acceptance from society and the authorities. Helping them deal with a crime lord will be his best way out.

As fans know, Sidwell stays in Wyndemere Castle, the original home of the Cassadine family. The mobster is conducting the secret Faison experiments in the castle's tunnels. No one knows the secret tunnels of Wyndemere as well as Valentin. As such, he is in an advantageous position to take down Sidwell.

3) Jason Morgan

Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) is Sonny’s henchman and right-hand man. As such, he is his boss’s ally in every conflict. Since Sonny is fighting with Sidwell for the Rochester piers, Jason is bound to help in this. Moreover, with Ace in danger and Charlotte and Danny in the line of fire, Jason could jump in to save the children.

Moreover, Jason wants Sidwell out since he is controlling Britt’s medication and coercing her into his illegal work. To save Britt, Sidwell must be taken down. Recently, Jason revealed plans to take out WSB Director Cullum to leave Sidwell alone. He then plans to help Sonny ruin the mobster when his boss makes the right move.

4) Carly Spencer

Carly (Laura Wright) is currently engaged in a ploy to take down Jack Brennan. However, her collaboration with Valentin has enabled her to spy on Sidwell and his illegal activities. Since Sidwell is Sonny’s enemy as well, when Carly learns about the upper hand Sidwell is employing on Sonny and Laura, she may use her leverage to take down the mobster.

Moreover, Carly is known to be fiercely protective of children. When she becomes aware that Sidwell threatened to harm Ace, and possibly Charlotte and Danny, she may step in to save the kids. Carly has stepped up to play the hero, helping her family and friends in the past.

5) Jordan Ashford

General Hospital fans may remember that Jordan resigned from her position as deputy mayor to join Sidwell as his COO, as part of a long-drawn-out scheme with Mayor Laura. This was Jordan’s undercover mission to expose Sidwell from inside. As such, both Laura and Jordan share the common goal of destroying the crime lord.

Laura knows Jordan has her back. However, Jordan is currently unaware that Sidwell is blackmailing Laura over Ace’s safety as a bargaining chip. Jordan could buy time and gather evidence against Sidwell before meeting with Laura to plan their next steps.

1) Ezra Boyle

Since his introduction to General Hospital, fans have known Ezra (Daniel Cosgrove) as part of Team Sidwell. For a long time, Ezra has played the corrupt councilman who wants Laura’s downfall. However, recently, he empathized with the mayor and confessed that he was stuck with Sidwell’s manipulations.

Fear of Sidwell’s retaliation and being unable to extricate himself from his deep involvement in Sidwell’s crimes will likely push Ezra to stop Laura from standing up to the crime lord. Knowing how dangerous Sidwell can be, Ezra would be unwilling to let Laura do any damage to the mobster’s plans and the councilman’s safety.

2) Ava Jerome

Ava Jerome, played by Maura West, has long been an enemy of Sonny, including their custody battle over Avery. As such, she would be reluctant to help Sonny or Laura in their battle against Sidwell. Also, Ava has no interest in saving Port Charles from a mobster as Laura does.

Moreover, Ava is attracted by power and money, and Sidwell seems to wield both. After losing the Cassadine divorce settlement fortune, Ava is in dire need of money. As such, she is siding with Sidwell to become financially stable. For that, she may willingly backstab Laura and Sonny.

3) Willow Tait

Although not an initial fan of the crime lord, Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) is currently Team Sidwell. She took help from Sidwell to keep Drew in his vegetative state. Also, Sidwell knows that she shot Drew and stabbed him to cause his present medical crisis. Holding these over her head, Sidwell has manipulated Willow into becoming the interim congresswoman for Port Charles and doing his bidding.

While blackmailed into being Sidwell’s ally, Willow may consider her new career beneficial for herself and her children. As such, she may continue to side with Sidwell and resist Laura’s moves to eliminate the mobster.

4) Anna Devane

As the former PCPD commissioner and Laura’s friend, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) might have been a great ally for the mayor in fighting the incoming mob clash and Sidwell’s growing power. However, Sidwell and Pascal had Anna captured and mentally tortured. Moreover, they psyched her into believing Faison was alive, which led to Anna’s mental breakdown.

As such, Anna is unable to help Laura. Moreover, she is held in a French psychiatric facility due to her mental and physical crisis. This keeps her far from Laura’s area of action, which is Port Charles.

5) Kevin Collins

While Laura’s husband, Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom), is a psychiatrist by profession. As such, he has no professional experience of the mob world, except for having a criminal brother, Ryan Chamberlaine. Kevin is too straight and mild to handle a mobster's clashes.

After Sidwell clearly threatened to eliminate Kevin if he interfered with his plans, as the doctor is of no use to the mobster, Laura encouraged Kevin to leave town with Ace. She may not entertain Kevin’s return to help her fight Sidwell, putting his life in danger. As such, though very supportive of his wife, Kevin will be of no help to Laura.
