General Hospital is facing multiple crises at the moment as the soap’s storyline is dealing with Jason’s arrest for Rocco’s actions, Marco’s death by Cullum, Sidwell’s revenge plan and Cassius posing as Nathan. Among all this chaos, some characters of Port Charles are not getting a proper story arc to utilize their potential. At the same time, some other arcs are dragging on with no real purpose.
5 General Hospital characters worthy of more action
1) Elizabeth Webber

Elizabeth, played by Rebecca Herbst, has been a fan favorite for many years. Her pairing with Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) is loved by General Hospital fans. However, since her sleuthing about Cyrus (Jeff Kober) with Lucky came to an end in early 2025, she has been relegated to a supporting presence for other characters. From standing by Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) to counselling Lucas (Van Hansis) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), Elizabeth is the quintessential nurse.
The show needs to explore her character development through solo, action-driven storylines. It may involve fresh romances and conflicts, or even moral dilemmas for Herbst to shine in a story she deserves.
2) Ava Jerome

Ava, played by Daytime Emmy-winner Maura West, is another character whose arc seems to have taken a backseat. Her last significant arc involved extorting Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) for the Cassadine money, followed by collaborating with Alexis to hold co-conspirator, Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) hostage.
While she is seen getting closer to the town’s latest villain, mobster Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), for his money and power, this seems to be her usual approach. The soap’s writers need to exploit Maura’s acting skills by offering her a different persona, such as an emotional turn or heroic actions.
3) Jordan Ashford

While Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is seen in action-oriented roles in undercover or police work, she has been lacking an exciting arc for some time. On one hand, she took up the risk of going undercover within Sidwell’s employment to track his illegal activities, while on the other, she got involved with Curtis and Portia’s marital problems.
Currently, Jordan is keeping her cover intact with her boss while romancing her former husband, Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner). Since Curtis moved in with her, they are reunited. However, they met with a road accident with uncertain consequences. Fans hope that Jordan gets a bigger storyline with much action in the coming days.
4) Kristina Corinthos

Kristina Davis-Corinthos (Kate Mansi) has been missing a good storyline for many months now. After her troublesome experience when she tampered with Ric’s car brakes, followed by holding Ric hostage with her mother, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), and Ava, Kristina’s arc showed her as a filler for other characters.
She supported her brother Michael's (Rory Gibsokn) ugly divorce and his new girlfriend, Jacinda (Paige Herschell). She has also worked hard to reopen Charlie’s after its tragic fire incident last year. Since fans believe that she has the temperament to handle high-stakes storylines, the soap must write her into one.
5) Giovanni Palmieri

Gio (Giovanni Mazza) arrived in the General Hospital storyline in May 2024. The revelation surrounding his parentage caused a huge drama during Nurses’ Ball 2025. This was followed by his slow reconciliation with his biological parents and his romance with Emma.
However, Gio’s arc lacks the spark that it promised fans. With Dalton’s (Daniel Goddard) death, his support for Emma’s mission has taken a back seat. Gio deserves more screen presence and a high-stakes purpose in the soap’s storyline.
General Hospital: 5 characters who need to take a step back
1) Drew Cain

Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) arc had been gathering much wrath from the viewers after his character became a villain. His fixation with getting Willow while blackmailing Portia (Brook Kerr) and framing Michael infuriated his fans. His storyline took another shocking turn when his new wife, Willow Tait injected him with a drug that caused an ischemic stroke.
While Willow is climbing up in her career, Drew stays at home in a locked-in condition, aided by drugs provided by Sidwell and injected by his wife. With not much going on in his life, Drew’s onscreen presence is boring. As such, this character may go on a break.
2) Portia Robinson

Fans have repeatedly questioned Portia’s recent storylines focusing on wrong decisions and questionable choices. Moreover, her persona has turned whiny, leaving fans frustrated. After being blackmailed by Drew, Portia was seen cheating on Curtis (Donnell Turner) with Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson).
Currently, she is officially dating Isaiah while awaiting her divorce from Curtis. Moreover, she is pregnant with Curtis’s child, whom they plan to co-parent. With her story arc lacking excitement and long-term purpose, fans may not miss her if she goes on a vacation from the show.
3) Trina Robinson

Just like her mother, Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) story arc is also tame and uninteresting. While she has moved on from her grief at losing Spencer, with a new romance with Kai (Jens Astrup), she consistently makes wrong decisions. Starting from invading Drew’s house to remove blackmail material on Portia, to discussing Willow’s crime inside Willow’s office with the door ajar, Trina’s actions have spelled carelessness.
Alongside herself, Trina’s thoughtless actions, albeit in goodwill, will pose danger for Kai. As such, she needs to stop sticking her neck out and take a step back.
4) Carly Spencer

As General Hospital fans know, Carly (Laura Wright) is central to the soap’s plot. Over the years, her presence has been important in the dynamics of Port Charles. She is fiery and interesting to watch. However, fans believe that Carly’s presence usurps other characters.
Since she is at the centre of a chaotic storyline involving Valentin, Brennan, Jason and Sidwell, a break may do her good. Moreover, that will let the Quartermaines come forward with their storylines.
5) Cody Bell

Josh Kelly’s Cody has been having an uninteresting story arc in the past few months since his romance with Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) dissolved after the latter’s paternal revelation made them cousins. After a long period of anguish, Cody found love with Molly (Kristen Vaganos).
While Molly and Cody’s current arc handles an important awareness about endometriosis, there is not much action for Cody in his present storyline. With his arc in a sort of backburner limbo, Cody needs to go on a vacation before embarking on some fresh action.
