Things are looking bad right now for General Hospital's Sonny (Maurice Benard), as more and more residents of Port Charles believe he's guilty of the Pentonville beatings that landed Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Curtis (Donnell Turner) in the hospital. But there are five characters who could help Sonny prove his innocence. Here are those five characters.
Carly Spencer

For the past 30 years, Sonny and Carly (Laura Wright) have been through thick and thin together. She knows Sonny better than any of his other past wives.
Here are just two examples of past storylines where Carly stood by Sonny's side. In 2002, she was a major part of the story arc where he staged his death in order to bring down Luis Alcazar (Ted King). More recently, she gave Sonny an alibi when he killed FBI Agent John "Jagger" Cates (Adam J. Harrington). She told the police that she and Sonny were having sex at the time Cates was murdered.
So, we're certain that Carly will do anything she can to help Sonny prove he didn't order the prison beatings. He's the father of their young daughter, Donna (Scarlett Spears), which is reason enough for Carly to want to help Sonny.
Jason Morgan

Even though Jason (Steve Burton) quit working for Sonny, he will surely be there for him if Sonny ever needs his help. This is definitely one of those times. Jason always has good instincts, so he can help Sonny figure out who framed him for the Pentonville beatings. Since Sonny has many enemies, Jason and Sonny can brainstorm all of the possible suspects.
Jason is already helping Sonny by trying to contact Vito. How long will it take him to learn that Drew and Ava (Maura West) persuaded Vito to betray Sonny, and that they are the ones who framed Sonny for the beating of Sidwell? Will Jason even get the chance to find out that information, or will Vito turn up dead somewhere in PC?
Michael Corinthos

When Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) pushed Michael (Rory Gibson) in the lake by the Quartermaine boathouse, she called him a manipulator. He gave her a clever response. He told her firmly, "I am not a manipulator. I am a strategist." His strategizing skills will come in handy when it comes to helping Sonny prove his innocence.
Michael hates Drew probably even more than Sonny does. He knows all too well what it's like to be victimized by Drew. After all, Drew paid the nurse at the German burn clinic to tell Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) that Michael refused to speak to her. After Daisy was born, Drew made sure that Wiley (Viron Weaver) overheard him say that Michael didn't want him anymore. Out of all of Sonny's allies, Michael arguably has the most reasons to hate Drew.
So, when Sonny finally realizes that Drew set him up for the Pentonville beatings, Michael will be more than happy to help him formulate a plan to retaliate against Drew.
Ric Lansing

It still feels a little odd to see Ric (Rick Hearst), Sonny's former enemy, now acting as Sonny's attorney and a genuine brother to him. But that's what happened when Sonny asked him to talk Curtis into retracting his statement against Sonny. Either Sonny is paying Ric an awful lot of money to represent him, or Ric really has turned over a new leaf (or both).
Since Ric is a sharp attorney, Sonny is lucky to have him on his side now. Ric may be aware of some legal loophole that will clear Sonny's name. Furthermore, since Ric used to be a first-class villain and a major thorn in Sonny's side back in the day, he may have some idea of the twisted way that Drew's mind works. Ric may need to tap into his dark side in order to help Sonny conquer Drew. But can he do it by legal means?
Laura Collins

Many GH fans would love to see Laura (Genie Francis) help Sonny find a way out of this mess. There is a good chance that she will do just that, depending on how soon she returns from Ireland. After all, she teamed up with Sonny and Lucas (Van Hansis) a few months ago to entrap Pascal (Marc Forget) so they could retrieve the incriminating photos of Henry Dalton's (Daniel Goddard) body in the trunk of her car.
We remember how shocked Laura was when she first found the body. She called Sonny for help, after which he had Jason detail the car and dispose of the body. She and Sonny made a good team then, so they could very well team up again now. She may want to help him in whatever way she can.
