5 General Hospital Characters Who Need a Therapist

Unfortunately, General Hospital's resident psychiatrist, Dr. Kevin Collins, is in Ireland right now, when so many Port Charles folks need his professional guidance. Here are five GH characters (and there may be more) who need the help of a therapist.

Drew Cain

For the past year or so, many GH characters have been puzzled over Drew's (Cameron Mathison) erratic personality shift. Laura (Genie Francis) talked about it on Monday's episode. And like other characters before her, she suggested to Sonny (Maurice Benard) that perhaps Drew's time in prison rattled him psychologically and caused his current angry behavior. He's made life hell for what seems like half the residents of PC with his never-ending manipulations, framings, blackmailings, lies, and schemes. Thankfully, we had a break from all of that during the months he couldn't move or talk. A speechless Drew is a heavenly Drew!

It might take an army of psychiatrists to figure out why Drew has turned to the dark side. His jealousy of Jason (Steve Burton) is off the charts, and many fans are wondering why in the world he is so vindictive against Sonny. He didn't behave this way after he was rescued from Cassadine Island in 2021. By the way, wasn't Jason the one who rescued him? Drew isn't even grateful that Jason saved his life. His anger knows no bounds. Perhaps a therapist could help him to overcome his intense jealousy and find a way to co-exist peacefully with Jason and everyone else in PC.

Willow Tait

Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) was right when she called Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) a monster, and being involved with Drew was what turned her into one. If we have to hear "I'm doing all of this for my children" one more time, we will scream bloody murder. Her victim act with Chase (Josh Swickard) has become nauseating. Speaking of Chase, if he thinks Willow is still in love with him, then why does he continue to parade around shirtless in front of her if he wants to make his marriage to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) work out?

And why is Willow rewriting her romantic history with Michael (who at the time was played by Chad Duell; now, Rory Gibson)? From what we saw onscreen, she was very happy with him for the first year of their marriage. They even went on a special dinner date to celebrate their first anniversary. The marriage only turned to shambles after she first kissed Drew on that fateful 4th of July two years ago.

If Willow doesn't eventually go to prison for shooting Drew, then she should at least receive intensive therapy in an institution for the criminally insane. Unfortunately, this is what happens when you're born into a family of psychotic women like Madeline (Donna Mills), Nina (Cynthia Watros), and Nelle (Chloe Lanier). It was only a matter of time before Willow's craziness finally surfaced.

Nina Reeves

Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) tried repeatedly, and unfortunately failed, to talk some sense into Nina. He told her that she's been enabling Willow by always taking her side and letting her get away with the horrible things she's done. It would have been wonderful if Nina had mustered the courage to turn Willow in to the police the minute she learned that Willow was the one who shot Drew. But instead, she's been keeping her daughter's crime a secret.

As if that weren't bad enough, Nina recently tried to kill Drew herself by pushing him into the lake outside the Quartermaine boathouse when he was still bound to the wheelchair. With that crazy action, the GH writers have now also turned Nina into an attempted murderer. Like daughter, like mother.

Since Nina didn't have the chance to raise Willow herself, she's now trying to do whatever she can to stay in Willow's good graces. As Jack implied, he believes that Willow doesn't really love Nina. He thinks their mother/daughter bond is one-sided, which was an excellent observation. Willow only likes having Nina as her mother because Nina has been working overtime to cover up Willow's corrupt actions. Perhaps a therapist could help Nina find the courage to give Willow the tough love she so desperately needs.

Anna Devane

Sonny has already suggested to Anna that she see a therapist to help her deal with the post-traumatic stress disorder that she's suffering after being kidnapped and held hostage by Pascal (Marc Forget). Little does Sonny know that Anna needs a therapist for another disturbing reason -- her hallucinations of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) and his order for her to kill Britt (Kelly Thiebaud).

Since Anna hasn't opened up to Sonny, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), Jason, or even her own granddaughter, Emma (Braedyn Bruner), she should consider talking to a professional. If she doesn't confide in someone, then Britt's life may very well be in danger. Anna asked Sonny if she could purchase some remote land from him. Is she planning to kidnap Britt and keep her prisoner on one of his properties? Hopefully, we will find out very soon, because that storyline has been dragging on for too long. It needs to come to a head.

Jason Morgan

Even though Jason doesn't behave erratically, like some of the others on this list, he is likely suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after what he endured in prison. When he was on the plane back to PC, we saw him flash back to his time in Jakarta. Fans noticed the change in his physical appearance. He was thinner, and his face was scarred. We know that whatever happened to him, it had a dramatic impact on his psyche, and it changed him to the point where he decided to quit working for Sonny.

He still hasn't opened up to Carly (Laura Wright), Michael (Rory Gibson), or Sonny about what happened to him. We know he must have been tortured by the prison guards, based on the screams in his flashbacks and the way he was huddled on the dingy prison floor. The guard shoved him into his cell and wouldn't even remove his handcuffs. Jason woke up panting from the nightmare. Maybe it would benefit him to talk to a therapist about what he went through.

It's hard for us to picture Jason opening up to a therapist, but maybe it would be a good first step for him. It might be the baby steps he needs to take for him to heal emotionally and move on with his life with Danny (Asher Antonyzyn). A therapist might also be able to give Jason some guidance and direction as he tries to figure out what job or career he wants to pursue next.

If Kevin isn't going to return to PC any time soon, then maybe we need another therapist to arrive on the GH canvas. There are so many characters on the show who are mentally afflicted and need help as soon as possible.
