ABC’s long-running daytime drama, General Hospital, has had quite the slew of villains in its more than sid decades on television. While some have passed through Port Charles like a blip on the radar, others have stayed in town to continue various nefarious businesses. Over the years, new evil characters have arrived in town for various reasons, from pursuing illegal business interests to tracking old rivals. However, as fans know, not many have made their mark against the town’s benevolent mob boss, Sonny Corinthos.
General Hospital fans have seen criminals and malevolent characters on the soap fighting over power and supremacy. Some examples include the Jerome, Cassadine, and Corinthos families, who have spent decades fighting for power.
5 villains from General Hospital who captivated viewers
1) Cesar Faison

When discussing villains in Port Charles, Cesar Faison’s name rules the roost. Both intimidating and fascinating, Anders Hove’s Faison was a master manipulator. While he was great at disguising himself, his obsession with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) led him to commit more crimes than could be listed, from kidnappings to brainwashing.
What made Faison truly dangerous was his connection with the WSB and other criminal organizations. Although death brought justice to his crimes, his legacy continued after him. From his crooked son, Peter, to his resurrected children, Britt and Nathan, to his last project being brought to life by other villains, Faison lives on as terror in the minds of many of his victims.
2) Helena Cassadine

If vengeance had a human form, it would be Helena Cassadine, the widow of Mikkos Cassadine. Originally debuted by Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor, Helena’s evil spirit was astutely portrayed by Constance Towers. From slitting the throat of Alexis’ mother to cursing Luke and Laura, leading to chaos in their lives, Helena has committed many crimes in cold blood.
The Cassadine matriarch dominated every situation in which she interfered, tricking her victims. She experimented with mind control and executed assassinations through hired killers or poisoning. Her constant thirst for vengeance against the Spencer family governed her actions, including her own faked death. Now dead and gone, Helena’s evil ways will be remembered with more Cassadine secrets waiting to come out on General Hospital.
3) Heather Webber

A villain through and through, Heather’s unpredictability kept General Hospital viewers glued to their seats. During her free rein in Port Charles, Heather committed a surprisingly long list of crimes. That included swapping babies, administering drugs, and killing. The last was the most chilling for fans as Heather went about serial killing as “The Hook.”
She was placed in a high-security prison for her crimes. Her reputation as the erratic crook continued as she planned to sue the hospital for cobalt poisoning from her hip implant, claiming that her murderous acts were instigated by the poisoning. She grieved Esme’s death, met her grandchild, Ace, and left for Arizona with Steven. However, the shadow of her crimes continued after her absence and the deaths of her children, Esme and Franco.
4) Ryan Chamberlaine

Played by Jon Lindstrom, Ryan Chamberlain projected the evil side of his good twin, Kevin Collins. Ryan was the ruthless criminal of Port Charles who acted with no mercy, turning on his charm whenever applicable. A masterful serial killer, he caused harm to multiple townspeople, including killing Av Jerome’s daughter, Kiki.
What made Ryan more threatening was his ability to smoothly impersonate his twin, leaving his victims vulnerable to his crimes. After his run-in with Heather and her daughter, Esme, Ryan was finally shot by Ava and Mac, ending his evil run.
5) Ava Jerome

Biologically, Ava belongs to the criminal family of Victor Jerome and is also the half-sister of Julian Jerome. Ava’s background makes her one of the ruthless villains who can move about in Port Charles without a shred of fear. With a complete lack of any moral compass, crime comes easily to her. Starting from killing Connie Falconeri to presumably causing Esme’s death, Ava showed no remorse.
She was even seen watching Sonny suffer a heart attack and keeping the medicine out of his hands. Recently, she teamed up with Ric Lansing to extort Alexis and later joined forces with Alexis and Kristina to hold Ric hostage. Despite all this, Ava is loyal to her friends, Portia, Nina, and Trina, making her a complex anti-hero. Played by Maura West, the stylish Ava Jerome captures the General Hospital fans’ hearts.
5 General Hospital villains who were disliked by fans
1) Shiloh Archer

One of the creepiest characters on General Hospital, Shiloh Archer, AKA David Henry “Hank” Archer, was seen on television screens for about nine months. Arriving in Port Charles in December 2018, he spread his charm on unsuspecting victims. The cult leader of the famous Dawn of Day, he used the ruse to control and exploit his followers, among them Sam McCall and Willow Tait.
Played by Coby Ryan McLaughlin, Shiloh extended his sexual manipulation to try to take Wiley. His previous victims were also discovered by Jason and Sam, the latter sacrificing her safety to investigate him. Eventually, his past collaboration with Helena and his crimes against Drew came to the fore. Shot by Sam in September 2019, the sinister criminal exited General Hospital.
2) Peter August

Peter August, portrayed by Wes Ramsey, arrived in Port Charles as a businessman. He fell in love with a bereaved Maxie, and the two got engaged. However, his paternity was revealed, and knowing he was the criminal Faison’s son, alerted others to his past. While Anna hoped Peter had reformed, he continued his covert crimes while keeping his past hidden from the clueless Maxie.
Initially, Peter tried hard to prove he was worthy of Maxie. However, he tried too hard, including holding people hostage, conspiring with other villains, and committing murder. When all his lies were revealed by Valentin and Obrecht, Peter and Maxie’s wedding fell apart. Later, when he tried to kidnap Maxie, Felicia hit him with a tire iron, and Anna watched him die.
3) Nelle Benson

Nelle Benson arrived in Port Charles as a new girl but tormented Carly and her family. Grudge about getting a bad life and a misguided revenge over everyone pushed her to torture the townspeople. While her primary target was Carly, she tried to hurt everyone connected to her.
As a villain, Nelle was a manipulator who used her sob story for her vendetta. To meet her goal, Nelle indulged in many crimes, including baby switching, drugging, and murder. Her wild actions involving her baby, Wiley, shook Port Charles. While Chloe Lanier played Nelle from 2016 to 2020, when Nelle fell off a cliff face, her unchecked terror ran out of steam, leaving General Hospital viewers exhausted.
4) Drew Cain

Drew Cain started his journey on General Hospital as a respectable hero who sacrificed for others’ good. However, after his prison time and a beating inside the facility, something shifted in him. As a result, his personality changed, and so did his upright character. The former Navy S.E.A.L started seducing Willow, the wife of his nephew, Michael.
Drew was also seen interacting with corrupt politicians after becoming a congressman himself. His selfishness and thirst for revenge pushed him to attack a former friend, Curtis. He also pulled all the stops to attack the Quartermaine family for rejecting him. He stooped low to blackmail Portia while hobnobbing with mobster Sidwell. This has made Drew Cain one of the most despicable characters in the current storylines.
5) Jenz Sidwell

Jenz Sidwell is an absolute villain and a ruthless mobster. While there is no mystery about him, his story arc leaves fans bored because it is irritatingly vile. He arrived in town to dominate the illegal smuggling scenario and put Sonny out of business.
General Hospital fans saw him holding Isaiah and Lucky hostage, kidnapping Sasha, sending Maxie into a coma, and murdering Judge Heran and Professor Dalton. He was seen blackmailing Laura into doing his bidding. He is colluding with the WSB director and manipulating his son, Marco’s, sentiments for his own ends. At the same time, he is playing both Ava and Lucy. He is the smooth, sleazy mobster who can cause brutal harm for his benefit, making him a hateful villain.
Since Port Charles has witnessed many criminals who hurt others for reasons they deemed justified, it is difficult to judge their wickedness from a single angle. The above-mentioned villains of GH have been judged on the basis of their on-screen presence, character traits, ability to engage viewers, and the reasons behind their crimes.
