5 Questions About What Really Happened to GH’s Sidwell and Curtis in Pentonville

In an unexpected and violent turn of events, General Hospital's Jenz Sidwell and Curtis Ashford were beaten inside Pentonville. As the sequence of events stands, Sonny Corinthos called his trusted henchman, Vito, with an instruction. At the same time, an inmate asked Curtis Ashford to stay away from his prison cell.

Suspecting foul play, Curtis warned Jenz Sidwell. Next, Sidwell reached out to visiting lawyer, Alexis Davis. Claiming that he feared attack from Sonny, Sidwell asked Alexis to take up his case and save his life.

Later, a group of inmates cornered Sidwell in his cell. When Curtis intervened, he was also beaten. While leaving, the ringleader claimed that Sonny owed Sidwell this violence. When the two injured prisoners were brought to the hospital, Curtis informed the PCPD about hearing Sonny's name. Meanwhile, Sonny assured Ric Lansing that his order for Vito was to instruct Sully to ensure Sidwell's safety, leaving too many questions to be answered in the storyline.

5 Gaping Issues That Need Clarification on the Sidwell-Curtis Attack

1) Who is the suspect and the real victims?

On September 25, 2026, a group of inmates entered the cell belonging to Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) and accosted Sidwell. When Curtis intervened and tried to talk them down, he got caught in the crossfire and both the men were brutally assaulted. Before leaving, the ringleader name-dropped Sidwell's former rival, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

As Curtis and Sidwell were brought to the hospital, both hinted at Sonny's hand behind the violence. As such, Sonny became the prime suspect in the case. At the same time, Curtis and Sidwell became the victims, particularly since Sidwell is fighting for his life. However, if Sonny was deliberately being namedropped and set up, he becomes an indirect victim too in this master scheme.

As mentioned before, the ringleader clearly stated that Sonny owed Sidwell this assault. As such, Curtis informed Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett) and Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) about the events inside the prison. As a firsthand witness, Curtis became the chief source of evidence.

Moreover, Joe has come across some security footage from the prison. Since the footage of the morning of the attack showed two of Sonny's former trusted employees meeting, Dante became sure that Sonny ordered the hit. With this, the PCPD may be able to get a warrant and arrest the former mob boss. Whether a search and thorough investigation throws up more evidence remains to be seen. Unfortunately, Sonny told Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) that he told Vito ensure Sidwell was safe inside the prison. Whether they betrayed him or the attempt backfired remains to be seen.

3) Is Sonny a target?

After decades of running a successful mob business, Sonny has recently quit the crime world. He is trying to move on to a civilian life and legal businesses. He shared the same with Sidwell when informing him that he planned to buy his assets at auction. However, Sidwell dismissed his claims and threatened to come back for revenge. Undeterred, Sonny has made his intentions clear to his family, friends and loved ones, including assuring Justine about getting clean.

However, this violence seems to rely heavily on Sonny's past reputation of a ruthless mob boss, likely framing him. One giveaway is the namedropping by the assailants, openly suggesting the former mob boss ordered the hit, which is unprofessional for Sonny's experienced henchmen to do.

Moreover, Sidwell ensured before the attack that Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) knew that he had danger from Sonny. The assailants also involved Curtis as another witness by attacking him too, although he was presumably not the target.

4) Who may be interested in framing Sonny?

Assuming that the previous point of discussion is correct, and Sonny is innocent of the Pentonville crime, he is being framed by one or many of his enemies. On the face of it, going by the chronology of events, it seems like Sidwell wanted to frame Sonny by making himself the bait. That would explain his frenzied interaction with Alexis about Sonny wanting to kill him. However, Sidwell is fighting for his life and the doctors are struggling to save him.

Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) is another rival who has been looking for ways to take Sonny down. However, Drew may using an indirect scheme to go about his revenge, as he did with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), where he planted vital evidence in her car that got her arrested.

As a former Pentonville inmate, and a former congressman, Drew may have pulled the right strings to get the job done. This way, Drew kills two birds with one stone by taking down Sidwell and Sonny. Other than Drew and Sidwell, Sonny has more enemies.

5) What would Dante and Justine's stand be?

Dante was the first to suspect that Sonny was behind this crime as he surveyed the victims. While he handed over the investigation to Joe and distanced himself from the case, his conversations with Nurse Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) showed his stance.

On the other hand, a careful and judicious Justine was less eager to accept this allegation. As Dante pointed out, she wanted to believe Sonny and did not want him to be the culprit. However, with the prison security footage showing Sonny's henchmen meeting on the morning of the assault, she will be left with few doubts.

While forced to suspect Sonny of the crime, both Dante and Justine would be disappointed about the mob boss's slip-up. Since Sonny's reputation precedes his more recent intention of going clean, he may have a tough job to convince his loved ones.
