For the past many months, General Hospital viewers have witnessed the crack widening in Brook Lynn and Harrison Chase's marriage. With their differences increasing for numerous external reasons, the relationship has turned shaky. The final nail in the coffin was the revelation of Brook Lynn's presence on Route 91 on the night of Jordan Ashford's accident, and the fact that she hid this detail from Chase.

Despite their attempt at growing their family by adopting Phoebe, the two are looking to use the baby as their pawn to outwit one another in their separation and custody demands. With so many parameters working against them, the couple may have reached the limit of reconcilable difference, with no chance of turning back.

5 Ways Brook Lynn and Chase's Differences Are Beyond Rescue

1) Shattered trust in the Route 91 revelation

With the revelation that Brook Lynn was "the other driver" in the accident that left Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) with scars on her face and sent Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) to prison, things exploded in Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase's (Josh Swickard) marriage.

Brook Lynn Quartermaine remained quiet about driving on the same road that night, to protect her chances of adoption. However, her husband, Det. Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) investigated further and exposed Brook Lynn, as Chase could not excuse his wife keeping this intel a secret from him.

2) Chase's lingering obsession with Willow

Chase has continued to maintain a soft spot for his former wife, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen). He believes Willow is a victim of situations that left her fighting for custody of her children with Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson). Chase also sacrificed his career in helping save Willow from shooting charges, himself taking a demotion for her. He also aided Congresswoman Willow in taking care of the paralyzed Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) while completely oblivious of her crimes.

He believed Michael was the villain and inadvertently helped Willow frame him. After discovering that Brook Lynn was "the other driver," Chase walked out on his wife and unburdened himself tp Willow. In return, Willow offered Chase a shoulder to cry on,

3) Michael, Tracy, and other external factors

As mentioned before, Michael and Willow have forever been fighting a custody battle over their children and are always trying to outwit the other. As such, Michael has been trying to push Chase and Willow together to defame the congresswoman. In addition, Brook Lynn's grandmother, Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), believes that BLQ's marriage is over. On one hand, she was the one who urged BLQ to remain quiet about her whereabouts, while on the other, she caught Chase in close contact with Willow. These two family members back the idea of Brook Lynn and Chase's separation.

So far, Tracy has reached out to Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) to represent Brook Lynn in her divorce case. However, Brook Lynn has not discussed her crumbling marriage with anyone. That doesn't mean Tracy isn't on the warpath to rid Brook Lynn of Chase once and for all.

4) Divorce lawyer and move-in strategy

Chase recently met with a new lawyer, Monet Mitchell (Blythe Howard), about his legal separation from Brook Lynn. However, before they make any official move, Monet advised Chase to move back into Quartermaine mansion. She explained how his walking out on his family may spoil his image of a responsible family man and jeopardize Chase's chances of winning custody rights to Phoebe.

Moreover, Monet met Tracy and informed her of Chase's decision and threatened to make a legal move against Brook Lynn if Tracy caused any interference. As such, the Quartermaine matriarch allowed Chase to move back in, although in a different wing of the house.

5) Both ready to play dirty for custody

As mentioned above, Chase has moved back into the Q mansion to help save his image before the courts. While he does not want to be branded as the parent who abandoned baby Phoebe, he is staying in a different wing and not really as a family. Moreover, Chase refused to move out to another house with BLQ and Phoebe away from the Quartermaine family's interference. He told Brook Lynn that he feared this might be a trap and that she would leave him but claim that he abandoned them.

Brook Lynn was shocked to learn Chase's true feelings about her. Their trust for each other hit a new low, with Chase feeling his wife would trick him and then claim otherwise. She suspected Chase of being devoted to Willow, while BLQ's lying and keeping secrets destroyed Chase's trust. Moreover, Brook Lynn knew that Chase moved back in to ensure his chances of getting Phoebe's custody. Accepting that their relationship is irreconcilable, Brook Lynn may fight hard and dirty for rights to her daughter.
