Despite agreeing to help Lucy Coe get her hold on Deception, General Hospital's Serena is becoming increasingly uncomfortable about Lucy's way of going abo\ut things. After her recent embarrassment in front of Jason Morgan, she may consider stepping away from her mother's chaos. If Serena's story takes her away from the Lucy-Tracy drama, she may have an unbiased story of her own.
5 Arguments Favoring an Independent Story for Serena
1) Exploring her roots as a legacy character

Since her recent arrival in Port Charles, Serena Baldwin (Kelly Kruger) is being used by her mother, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), as a sidekick to meet Lucy's own goals. However, Serena is a legacy character, being the daughter of Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and Dominique Stanton (Shell Danielson). As a result, she carries rich family history on her shoulders.
It is unfair to reduce a legacy character into a subordinate background schemer when Serena could have an independent arc exploring her personal aspirations, griefs and triumphs. Moreover, Serena's backstory during her years away is yet to be revealed.
2) Showcasing her environmentalist side

As GH fans may remember, Serena's visit to the Quartermaine mansion presented the character's environment-conscious side. After hearing Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) making a big issue about the falcon nests on the mansion's roof, Serena tried to rescue the nests. She slipped from her perch on the roof and hung upside down. Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) rescued her from her precarious position.
Later, she suggested moving the nests to the nature reserve with Jason's help. She seemed to know a lot about the species and also the law connected to falcons. This indicates Serena is an environment conservation enthusiast and an animal lover. Although her back story has not yet been disclosed, she may have an independent career as an environmentalist in Port Charles.
3) Stepping away from Quartermaine-Coe war

Lucy summoned Serena to town to help her take charge of Deception. Since Lucy has been losing control over the company she co-founded, she is furious with Tracy for interfering in the company work. For a long time, Tracy and Lucy had equal shares in Deception. However, after Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) gave hers to Lucy as part of a deal, Lucy is eyeing total control.
While Brook Lynn is furious with Lucy about this deal, Tracy is the biggest hurdle in Lucy's ambition. Moreover, Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) owns another large part of the company shares. After taking Brook Lynn's, Lucy wants Michael's shares. In all this drama, Lucy wants Serena to seduce Michael or trick Jason into handing over the controls to Lucy. Serena may want to escape getting ground down in this tug-of-war.
4) Testing her romantic chemistry

Since Serena's arrival in Port Charles, GH viewers witnessed Lucy trying to push her to seduce Michael, a task that Serena deemed inappropriate. Moreover, Michael saw through the ploy and Serena dropped the act. However, Lucy tried to forcefully push them together.
In addition, Serena's first encounter with Jason was an interesting medley of grudge, chaos, and collaboration. While Serena stomped on Jason's feet for driving her father, Scott, away from Port Charles, she was rescued by Jason when she was hanging upside down from the window. Later, they moved the falcon nests to the nature reserve together and checked each other for ticks. She was also embarrassed at getting caught trying to trick Jason and shared her predicament. Serena should let her life bring her new relationships naturally.
5) Becoming the voice of reason

As mentioned before, Serena was contrite when Jason caught her trying to fool him into handing over Michael's proxy to Lucy. Moreover, he correctly guessed that Lucy was behind this plan. As such, Serena tried to reason with her mother. She had even explained to Lucy why a seduction plan would not work for Michael and that she did not want to trick Jason.
She was also open with Jason about the situation with her mother and her own moral stand. In the coming days, Serena may ignore Lucy's amoral ideas and offer sound advice that the latter would need to accept. She may try to be the pillar of strength for her mother while pushing for peace between Lucy and Tracy.
