5 Reasons Kai's Romantic Surprise for Trina Missed the Mark on General Hospital

General Hospital's Trina Robinson is dealing with a stalker issue, with the plot revolving around cryptic messages from her "biggest fan." At this time, her boyfriend, Kai Taylor, sensed her tension and decided to gift her a few moments of happiness.

Kai employed his friend, Quinn, to get Trina to an Airbnb Kai booked after the boys tampered with Trina's car. Kai also tried to set up a romantic atmosphere by decorating the space with flowers and candles and arranging for champagne. While Trina enjoyed her passionate tryst with Kai later, she was initially ill at ease with the arrangement. This does not bode well for the romance.

5 Ways Kai's Surprise Felt Disquieting

1) The room décor felt predatory

Quinn (Jequan Jackson) brought Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) to a house, pretending to stop over briefly at his sister's place. However, Trina was shocked to see the room lit with candles, while the bed was strewn with rose petals. This put Trina ill at ease and she asked to leave.

With no happy vibes and a blatant lie to land Trina in that place, the arrangement looked less romantic and more creepy. As such, Trina felt no gush of happiness and warmth. Instead, she freaked out, questioning Quinn about the dubious décor and asking to get out ASAP.

In an extension of the previous point, Quinn was possibly the wrong kind of ally for the surprise. As General Hospital fans know, Kai Taylor (Jens Austin Astrup) presumably planned this elaborate ploy to distract Trina from all things that have been causing her stress. However, the sequence of events and Quinn's behavior put Trina's hackles up.

Firstly, Quinn appeared on the empty road just when Trina's car stopped working. Next, he missed the right turn and took a detour on a flimsy excuse. Finally, he tried to stop Trina from leaving, behaving more like a kidnapper than a co-conspirator of a surprise. This may leave a bad taste in Trina's mouth.

3) Trina's past trauma triggered

As longtime GH fans know, Trina is not new to trauma. She has faced danger from The Hook killer in the past, forcing her mother to alter the serial killer's medical reports, so that Heather could be kept contained. There was also the trauma surrounding the interactions she had with Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl). Besides that, Trina has faced immense grief over the loss of her first true love, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez).

Spencer's death in a presumed drowning, along with Esme, left a scar on Trina's heart. While Trina took years to come out of her grief, any untoward incident is likely to reopen the wound, bringing back traumatic memories.

4) Kai was ill-managed and late

When Quinn arrived at the Airbnb with Trina, the space was decorated with flowers and candles. However, it was empty of any other inhabitant, raising doubts for Trina. Since Quinn had lied to her about coming to his sister's house, Trina was freaked out by the atmosphere.

Unfortunately, Kai stepped out to get the missing champagne bottle and was not there when Trina arrived. With Quinn behaving like a creep, and Kai nowhere around, Trina felt ambushed. Later, when Kai arrived, the atmosphere lightened. However, what lasting effect was left on Trina's mind remains to be seen.

5) Trina is dealing with an active stalker

Trina already has an anonymous stalker who calls himself her "biggest fan". The stalker has a collage board full of Trina's photographs and plays her songs on his laptop in a loop. He also watches her from afar without approaching her or introducing himself.

So far, the stalker has presented Trina with flower bouquets and unsigned appreciation messages. This has worried Trina a little. Even Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and Trina's friend, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) have noticed the bouquet with the cryptic message at her door. While Trina may be unaware of the extent of danger looming on her, she may be feeling the weird vibe and the uneasiness. As such, while she spent intimate moments with Kai, she may not consider this with the fondness Kai wants her to.
