5 Reasons Why General Hospital's Curtis is Being Ridiculous

General Hospital's recent Pentonville beating has stirred up commotion all throughout Port Charles, and our favorite mobster, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), is taking the heat for it -- thanks to Curtis (Donnell Turner). GH fans are tired of watching Curtis act ridiculously over one thing or another. Here are five reasons why he is just plain wrong in blaming Sonny for the beatdown.

He is jumping to conclusions, as he did with Isaiah

We've already been through this nonsense with the car crash storyline. Curtis assumed that Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) was the other driver because the car in question was a black foreign car (which Isaiah happens to drive). Newsflash, Curtis: a lot of people drive black foreign cars.

Isaiah happened to be driving in the same area that Curtis and Jordan (Tanisha Harper) were driving in. But that didn't necessarily mean he was the other driver. Unfortunately, that's what Curtis had assumed, and he wouldn't stop accusing Isaiah. We all know how that turned out. Curtis punched Isaiah and wound up in Pentonville.

He knows that Sonny wouldn't give himself away

After the Pentonville beatdown, one of the men responsible said to Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Curtis, "Sonny Corinthos owes you this and more." First of all, how did Curtis manage to recall those exact words? He was lying on the ground in extreme pain. He was severely bruised, and his ribs were broken. How could he remember what the inmate had said about Sonny if he was lying there in agony?

Furthermore, Curtis should realize that no mob kingpin would ever order a beating and then allow the assaulters to mention his name to the victim. Sonny has decades of street smarts under his belt. He would never give away his identity like that, because if he did, then the victim might find a way to retaliate against him.

Curtis should have the sense to realize that, considering that he himself has had some personal dealings with a certain mobster -- namely, Selina Wu (Lydia Look). Remember when he offered her a million dollars to kill Drew (Cameron Mathison) before he later changed his mind? He also allowed Selina to use the back room of his nightclub, The Savoy, for poker games if she obtained his father Marshall's (Robert Gossett) medical records for him.

He knows that Sonny and Sidwell have mutual enemies

Curtis should realize that Sonny and Sidwell share many of the same enemies in the mob world. Some of those enemies might have viewed the beatdown as a way to eliminate Sidwell and frame Sonny for it, thereby getting rid of both Sidwell and Sonny at the same time.

Curtis knows that the mob underworld is a vast and dangerous world, one where you can't take anyone at their word just because they say, "Sonny owes you this." Why is he acting so naive? Wasn't he a private detective when he first arrived in Port Charles in 2015? He used to be smarter than this. What happened to him?

He knows that Drew is always a possible suspect

Curtis knows that Drew has made life miserable for almost everyone in PC. The Ashford family has suffered big-time at the hands of Drew. Even if Drew wasn't the first suspect who popped into Curtis' mind, Curtis should have thought of him at some point after Jordan visited him in the hospital. After all, Jordan doesn't like Drew either. She knows he targeted the Ashfords last year and practically blew up their entire lives. She even told Drew as much a week or two ago.

While it isn't normally Drew's style to hire thugs to beat someone up, Curtis knows that Drew's past sins include framing, blackmailing, bullying, and manipulating. Heck, Drew even wanted to bulldoze the Quartermaine crypts, where his own family is resting in peace. What kind of person would do a thing like that? At this point, Curtis shouldn't put anything past Drew, including framing Sonny. Framing is in Drew's wheelhouse, as he once framed Tracy (Jane Elliot) for drugging him.

Sonny has always had respect for Curtis and his family

How could Curtis say that he hates Sonny? He's obviously forgetting that Sonny has always looked out for him and the other Ashfords. Case in point, when Curtis was in a wheelchair a few years ago and wasn't able to oversee the daily operations at The Savoy, Marshall stepped in and did away with the backroom poker games. Selina was unhappy about that and asked Sonny to encourage Marshall to resume the poker games. Sonny refused to get involved, telling Selina that Marshall was dealing with health issues and had a wheelchair-bound son who needed his assistance. Sonny told her that he respects both Curtis and Marshall, and he asked her not to interfere in the way they were doing business.

Furthermore, Sonny brought Curtis' aunt, Stella (Vernee Watson-Johnson), into his inner circle when Sonny and his family were helping Mike (Max Gail) cope with Alzheimer's Disease. Stella prepared the Corinthos family for the obstacles they would be facing as the disease progressed. She was a strong source of emotional support for Sonny and his family, and she became a close friend of Mike's.

So, when Ric (Rick Hearst) visited Curtis in the hospital and assured him that Sonny didn't order the beating at Pentonville, why didn't Curtis at least give him the benefit of the doubt? If he had, then he could have actually helped Sonny find the true culprit. It shouldn't have been so hard for the two of them to put their heads together and figure out that Drew was behind the beatings.
