In a dark soap like General Hospital, where we see criminal activity and corruption on an almost daily basis, Emma Scorpio-Drake (Braedyn Bruner) is one of the brightest spots on the canvas. Here are five reasons why Emma is one of our favorite characters in Port Charles.

She Helps Gio Understand the Importance of Family

Brook Lynn's (Amanda Setton) revelation about being "the other driver" in the car accident shocked and disturbed everyone involved. Her son, Gio (Giovanni Mazza), is struggling to deal with this troubling news, considering that Brook Lynn's own mother, Lois (Rena Sofer), had kept it a secret from Brook Lynn that Gio is Brook Lynn's son. Gio knows first-hand how hurtful secrets can be. He told Emma how hurt he felt that Brook Lynn kept a secret of her own from all of the parties involved.

Emma gently reminded him that he wasted so much time shutting Brook Lynn out of his life after he first learned that she is his mother. Since then, he and Brook Lynn have grown close, and Emma doesn't want to see him shut Brook Lynn out of his life again. "I miss my mom every day," Emma told him. The mom she's referring to is longtime fan favorite Robin Scorpio-Drake (Kimberly McCullough).

"You don't give up on family, even when they disappoint you," Emma continued. "You work through it." Emma knows that Brook Lynn and Gio have worked hard to build a good relationship as mother and son. She doesn't want to see him throw it away. Now, that's what we call a caring and loving girlfriend.

Emma is a Loving Granddaughter to Anna

Emma admires her grandmother, Anna (Finola Hughes), and practically views her as a superhero because of Anna's past career with the WSB. Anna came out of that dangerous job with her life intact, which is one of the many reasons why Emma looks up to her. She views Anna as fearless and brave. Anna and Emma have a close relationship, perhaps one of the closest in the show. Anna has been supportive of Emma's relationship with Gio and is pleased that Emma has found someone who makes her happy.

Now that Anna is suffering a mental breakdown due to her hallucinations of Peter (Wes Ramsey) and his order to kill Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), she is going to need all the love and support that Emma can give her. We know that Emma will be there for Anna to help her heal, because being there for Anna is one of the things Emma does best.

Emma is Supportive of Gio's Music Career

Emma recently invited Gio to go on a camping trip with her. He told her he couldn't go right now, because he and Trina (Tabyana Ali) are scheduled to perform together. Even though Emma was disappointed, she graciously smiled and told him, "The stars aren't going anywhere and neither am I." That's our Emma -- patient, kind, and understanding.

She has always been supportive of Gio's musical ambitions, which date back to his performances as a violinist, when he first arrived in PC. Emma was captivated when she watched him play the violin at the Nurses' Ball in 2025. Even though he isn't playing that beloved instrument at the moment, Emma wants him to pursue a musical career in whatever way would make him feel fulfilled. She is always right there, cheering him on and proud of his talent and his accomplishments.

Emma Isn't Afraid to Tell Tracy When She's Wrong

As any longtime GH fan knows, it takes someone with guts to stand up to Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), and Emma did just that this past week. After Gio learned that Tracy knew about Brook Lynn's secret, he lashed out at her for keeping quiet about it.

Then, Emma defended Gio and explained to Tracy that Brook Lynn's silence hurt Trina, as Brook Lynn has been managing Trina and Gio as a musical duo but was keeping quiet all that time. Even though Emma isn't a member of the Quartermaine family, she still found the courage to tell Tracy she was wrong, and she did it calmly and diplomatically. We applaud her for that.

If It Weren't for Emma, we Wouldn't Have Outback

Last year, Emma and Gio were tossing a ball back and forth when a stray beagle snatched a baseball cap from Gio's duffle bag. Emma and Gio chased after the dog. After they caught up with him, Emma took a photo of Gio holding the dog. She posted the photo online in the hope that someone might claim the pooch as their lost pet. Emma added that if no one claimed the dog, then she was going to keep her and name her Outback. Since Emma's grandfather, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), is Australian, she chose to give the dog a name that pays homage to his Australian roots.

Since then, many other PC residents have fallen in love with Outback, the adorable beagle. Currently, she is in the process of digging up Jack Brennan's (Chris McKenna) body in the unmarked grave that Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ava (Maura West) tossed him into. It's fun to see Outback involved in a front-burner storyline, and many GH fans think of her as one of the most entertaining characters in the show.

Emma's love for animals is a wonderful and refreshing thing to see on a soap. We admired her determination to expose Professor Henry Dalton (Daniel Goddard) when he was conducting experiments on dogs in a lab last year. We love that she is a heroine who fights to protect animals. It makes perfect sense that she has decided to pursue a career as a veterinarian. That's not a goal we see most soap characters strive for. But we know that if anyone can make that dream come true, it is Emma Scorpio-Drake.
