Many General Hospital fans would agree that GH would not be the same without Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). She has a unique presence and personality unlike any other character in Port Charles. Here are five reasons why we love Tracy.
She always looks out for her family's welfare

Tracy believes that the Quartermaine family should always stand by each other, no matter what. She kept her granddaughter, Brook Lynn's (Amanda Setton), secret when she confessed to being the other driver in Curtis' (Donnell Turner) and Jordan's (Tanisha Harper) car accident.
Thankfully, Tracy spoke for all GH fans when she told Brook Lynn to stop feeling so guilty for keeping silent. When Brook Lynn regretted framing Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), Tracy responded in typical Tracy fashion, saying, "She deserved it! She was chasing after your husband."
A few months ago, Tracy gave Brook Lynn some tough love after seeing how much Brook Lynn had been bending over backwards to try to please Chase (Josh Swickard). "I expect more from you," Tracy said firmly. "Strong, independent women are your legacy. Your mother, my mother, Gloria...me! Our bloodline has never produced a woman who made herself small to keep a man. Don't you dare become the first!" Thank you, Tracy, for trying to knock some sense into Brook Lynn.
She has developed a close relationship with Jason

Over the past year or so, we've seen a big change in Tracy's relationship with her nephew, Jason (Steve Burton), and fans are loving their newfound closeness. For decades, she had no room for him in her life because he left his Quartermaine family and became Sonny's (Maurice Benard) enforcer. But after Jason realized that he needed to move back into the Quartermaine mansion to be near Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), Tracy gradually began to respect and love him.
Last year, Monica's (Leslie Charleson) death drew Tracy and Jason even closer together, as they grieved their mutual loss. Tracy even told Jason the story of the time when Monica first accepted him as her son. She told him that when he was first born to Susan Moore (Gail Ramsey) and Alan (Stuart Damon), Monica was deeply hurt by Alan's betrayal and was particularly hurt by the fact that their affair produced a child. Because of that, Monica would not accept Jason in her life.
But one day, baby Jason was sick, and Monica took care of him. From that point on, she accepted him as her son. Jason was grateful that Tracy had shared that story with him about the woman who became his mother after his biological mother, Susan, was murdered.
She is never afraid to speak her mind

Tracy is never one to hold back from expressing her opinions about anything or anyone. She also makes sure she expresses those opinions in the clearest way possible, leaving no room for doubt about what she means. She never pulls any punches. The bonus is that there is often humor in her words. Jane Elliot has a special talent for making us laugh with her sharp and biting line delivery whenever she tells it like it is.
One of our favorite examples of this was when Drew (Cameron Mathison) showed up at Monica's funeral in his wheelchair. Tracy had no qualms about wheeling him right out of the church, even though he argued that Monica was his mother and he had every right to be there. "You forfeited that right when you broke her heart," Tracy told him flat out. The other mourners were grateful that she got rid of him, and we were, too. "Your presence is neither required nor desired," she added. "It's detested." Tell him, Tracy!
She loved Monica even though they were at odds

Speaking of Monica, Tracy was fiercely loyal to her, even though the two ladies spent most of their adult lives bickering and were barely able to stand each other. As time passed, Tracy grew to respect and love Monica. The lines "This is Monica's house. Alan gave it to her" have arguably become two of the most cherished lines in the history of GH. Throughout the years, Tracy often recited those lines to the other Quartermaines, making sure they always remembered.
When Monica was suffering from poor health and was bedridden, Tracy took Wiley (Viron Weaver) and Amelia away from Willow and brought them to live in the Quartermaine mansion so they could be close to Monica, their great-grandmother. Carly (Laura Wright), Sonny, and Martin (Michael E. Knight) all tried to convince Tracy to give the kids back to Willow, but she refused. She wanted Monica to have her great-grandchildren in the mansion with her so that she could spend some time with them every day. She knew how important that was to Monica.
Martin became so frustrated with Tracy's refusal to give back the kids that he called her a "porcupine." While her personality may come across as prickly sometimes, her stubbornness demonstrated the lengths she will go to for her loved ones' happiness. One of those loved ones was Monica.
We love Tracy's friendship with Stella

Tracy and Stella (Vernee Watson-Johnson) celebrated when Stella was promoted to the position of hospital administrator. They also celebrated the birth of baby Desmond, who is Stella's great-nephew. Tracy and Stella's friendship has been a breath of fresh air, as Tracy doesn't normally allow many people into her inner circle. She doesn't have a large group of close friends, so it was a sweet surprise to see her develop friendships with both Stella and Gregory Chase (Gregory Harrison) before Gregory passed away from ALS in 2024.
Tracy and Stella have given each other mutual support through the recent ups and downs that life has been throwing their way. It's been a pleasure to see the softer side of Tracy emerge, and both Gregory and Stella have brought that gentleness out of her. We hope to see Tracy and Stella's friendship continue to grow.
