When General Hospital's Curtis Ashford became collateral damage in the Pentonville attack on Jenz Sidwell and ended up at GH, he thought he could use the situation to his advantage. His new lawyer, Monet Mitchell, agrees and wants to play a PR game with Curtis and change how the public views him. She believes this will earn him an appeal, but can Curtis and Monet do this right?

5 PR Moves That May Help Curtis Get Free

1) Create a halo around the "prison hero" image

Since his hospitalization and statement against Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), former CEO of Aurora Media and current Pentonville prisoner, Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner), has been angling for a pardon or appeal...or at least a transfer to Spring Ridge. As such, his new lawyer, Monet Mitchell (Blythe Howard), mapped out the plan to portray him as the hero who was injured in the prison attack in an attempt to save the main target, mobster Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota).

Curtis must consider going back to Pentonville while Monet prepares the narrative elevating his image. Meanwhile, Curtis should maintain a good conduct inside the prison as his heroic image develops outside. He can position himself to voice the need for prison safety and reform. Using these, Monet may get his case reopened and try to have Curtis exonerated.

2) Issue a public apology to Isaiah Gannon

As fans already know, Curtis jumped to the conclusion that Dr. Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson) was "the other driver" who neglected helping him and Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) after their car crash. As such, he assaulted Isaiah and injured the surgeon's dominant hand. For this action, Curtis was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

By now Curtis knows that Isaiah was not the other driver and he was wrong. This would be Curtis's opportunity to improve his reputation. He may consider apologizing to Isaiah and making that public. That way the court and even Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) will believe that Curtis is a changed person and is genuinely contrite. On a side, he can start a medical care rehabilitation fund or foundation making his apology stronger.

3) Utilize Aurora Media and Drew Cain for the right exposure

Taking Monet's advice, Curtis should think about using his knowledge of the media and utilize it for his own PR. Going to Aurora Media, which he was a part of before his arrest, through Jordan may be seen as favoritism. However, Curtis may reach out to Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) who is also connected to Aurora. However, he asked Monet to be careful with him.

Since Drew had forced Curtis to do the PR for the politician in the past, Curtis may ask Drew to return the favor. Moreover, Curtis is good at PR strategy and knows how to create a narrative. By using Drew for his work, Curtis would be able to avoid any awkwardness with Jordan and the Aurora head, Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson).

4) Use media for public backlash towards Brook Lynn

As mentioned before, Curtis had blamed Isaiah as the "other driver" and picked a fight with him. However, it was later revealed that the driver facing Jordan's car and then driving off unaware of the crash was Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton). Curtis is furious that Brook Lynn had not come forward with the truth sooner, thinking his imprisonment could have been avoided.

Once portrayed as the "prison hero", Curtis may try to turn the narrative towards Brook Lynn. He may publicly blame her for playing the coward. He can turn his PR campaign to incite moral outrage about the cover-up done by one of the most elite families in Port Charles.

5) Highlight his reconciliation with Portia and Desmond

Curtis likely considers this time an opportunity to return to his normal family life. However, he needs to make careful moves to keep harmony all around him. He should leverage his role as a father of Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) and his newborn son, Desmond Ashford (Yirah Aviah Lafond). He may play out the father-child separation before the governor.

At the same time, he can have a reconciliation with Portia on camera, such as a joint interview or a family photograph. This would turn the public sentiment in his favor. Moreover, he may want to keep Monet within professional boundaries and focused on the law. That would ensure that Monet's resentment towards Jordan does not jeopardize Curtis and Jordan's relationship.
