Trouble is brewing between General Hospital's Carly and Valentin as various conspiracies play out in Port Charles. After the dust settled following the Spoon Island chaos, Carly tried to get Josslyn out of WSB while Valentin planned to go into clean business and settle down with his daughter, Charlotte.
However, Jack's disappearance from Metro Court Hotel during a security breach and the ransacking of his room have worried Carly. Valentin believes Jack has fled town and is upset with Carly for pointing her finger at Nina. With many differences looming between them, Carly and Valentin's relationship may be in danger.
5 Problems That May Separate Valentin and Carly
1) Valentin's lingering feelings for Anna

Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) collaborated with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) as revenge against Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna). However, Jack warned Carly that Valentin's true love is Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), and he may rush back to his love.
While Carly attempted to accept Valentin's past relationships, as he did with her, Anna's return to Port Charles seemed to distract Valentin. Although Valentin assured Carly that he has moved on, he seems to understand Anna's problems the best. With Anna ready to go into therapy and a possible police investigation against her, Valentin may stand by her. Whether Carly accepts this or backs out of her relationship remains to be seen.
2) Valentin's ready to back Nina

Longtime GH fans know that Carly has had a rivalry with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). Their friction has a long history going back to when Nina conceled the fact that Sonny (Maurice Benard) was alive when he had amnesia in Nixon Falls. Recently, after Carly broke up with Jack, Jack and Nina dated briefly before the WSB chief disappeared.
When WSB came questioning Carly about Jack's disappearance from her hotel, she pointed out that Nina had a loud argument with Jack recently. This upset Valentin, who blamed himself for pulling Nina into this mess. While fans know Nina and Jack's connection happened without Valentin's contribution and revolved around Nina's daughter, if Nina is picked up by the WSB, particularly after Jack's wallet is found in her car, Valentin may rush to her side and try to protect his former spouse.
3) Carly's worries about Jack's safety

As mentioned before, Carly wanted revenge on Jack and teamed up with Valentin. The reason behind her anger was that although Carly and Jack were dating, he secretly recruited her daughter, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), into WSB. While she broke up with Jack and started dating Valentin, Carly was worried about Jack's safety when he went missing as his room was ransacked.
Valentin took a different approach and believing that Jack set up the scenario and skipped town. Moreover, Agent William Baines (Alimi Ballard) told Carly that Valentin had the capability to eliminate Jack and make it look like he fled. If Carly starts suspecting Valentin, a rift may crop up in their relationship. At the same time, Valentin may be frustrated to find Carly concerned about her former boyfriend.
4) Lack of acceptance and conflicting family loyalties

One of the biggest hurdles in Carly and Valentin's union would be their families and friends. Carly's daughter, Josslyn, her former spouse, Sonny, and her best friend, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), have already expressed their disapproval of Valentin. While Valentin's daughter has a good rapport with Carly, the views of his extended family are pending. However, both keep their children as a priority and will likely choose their own blood over their partner and their partner's child.
At the same time, Carly's and Valentin's enemies from the past may rear their heads and cause problems for her in maintaining a normal couple-like relationship with Valentin.
5) Valentin's approach towards romance

A quick look at Valentin's past romances hows that his past relationships have been complicated by his partners' personal struggles and his own patterns. Those include both Nina and Anna. As such, he may have issues in holding down a stable and emotionally secure attachment.
So far, Valentin's feelings for Carly bordered on a "strange obsession," as described by actor James Patrick Stuart. His dysfunctional approach to romance may eventually bring out his Cassadine nature and push him to unpredictable actions or self-sabotage. If Carly notices any sign of trouble, she may cut ties soon.
