5 Tried and True General Hospital Stories We Need to See More of Now

While General Hospital is filled with mysterious characters and dramatic storylines, there are certain themes we would love to see more of every day. Here are five of those themes.

Hospital Storylines

Many GH fans would love to see more storylines that revolve around medical cases and the hospital itself. After all, the soap is called General Hospital. The staff is large enough that it can handle a variety of medical storylines, and now we even have a new doctor, Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer), who has joined the staff.

Unfortunately, we're being smothered with all things WSB. While we do need the intrigue of WSB stories, we need to balance them out with some medical stories. Portia (Brook Kerr), for example, could use an interesting medical case to handle to take her mind off the car crash and the fact that baby Desmond's father, Curtis (Donnell Turner), is in prison.

Medical drama is exciting, as patients' lives are on the line and there's a race against time to save them. We know the GH actors are more than talented enough to carry the weight of those stories.

Close Family Ties

Longtime GH fans love the growing closeness between Tracy (Jane Elliot) and Jason (Steve Burton). Every time they hug, it brings tears to our eyes. For decades, these two never would have given each other the time of day. But now that Jason has come to appreciate his Quartermaine roots again, fans are thrilled that he and his Aunt Tracy have each other's backs.

We have a few other close family ties, like the bond between Tracy and her granddaughter, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), and the closeness between Anna (Finola Hughes) and her granddaughter, Emma (Braedyn Bruner). Let's see more relationships like these. GH is filled with so much darkness and bitterness that sometimes it feels like we've lost sight of one of the themes that soaps were originally built on -- that is, a strong family foundation.

Long-Lasting Love Stories

The relationship between Cody (Josh Kelly) and Molly (Kristen Vaganos) is one of the more solid ones on GH. We have a few other romances as well, like the one between Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Emma, Portia and Isaiah, and Carly (Laura Wright) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), for example.

But currently, we only have two longtime marriages on GH. Ned (Wally Kurth) and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) have been married nine years, and Mac (John J. York) and Felicia (Kristina Wagner) have been married thirteen years. We watched Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn go through a huge amount of preparation for their wedding two years ago, but now they are on the verge of a potential divorce.

We need more couples who overcome obstacles together and grow in their love for each other. Let's hope Cody and Molly and some of the other current couples do that as time goes on.

Ride or Die Friendships

While we do have true-blue, ride-or-die friendships like Jason and Carly's and Anna and Valentin's, we need a few more of those "us against the world" friendships.

While Ava (Maura West) is friends with Nina (Cynthia Watros), she won't save Nina from prison because that would mean she'd have to confess her own guilt in burying Jack's (Chris McKenna) body. Sonny is friends with Jason, but we only get an occasional episode of them together. Maybe they could start a business together, but this time, they could be on the right side of the law?

The friendship between Tracy and Stella (Vernee Watson-Johnson) is a joy to watch, but their scenes together are few and far between. These ladies have so much in common. We need to see them hang out more often, perhaps over dinner at the Metro Court Gardens.

Enemies to Allies

This theme is the most interesting one of all because we have so many great potential pairings. We've already seen half-brothers Sonny and Ric (Rick Hearst) mend fences after hating each other for twenty years. GH fans love their positive new connection. Let's see more pairings like this one.

Maybe Sonny could bury the hatchet with Valentin next, and the two of them could team up to take down Drew (Cameron Mathison). Even though Drew isn't targeting Valentin at the moment, Valentin may need to come up with a strategy to keep Drew at bay, in case Drew finds out about Charlotte's (Bluesy Burke) crazy plan to entrap him.

Or maybe Jason could team up with Valentin and find a way to persuade Drew to allow Scout (Kayden Brenna Tokarski) to see Danny (Asher Antonyzyn). That alliance might help Jason to recapture some of the edge that he's lost since he stopped working for Sonny.
