The back-from-dead Nathan West of General Hospital has been revealed to be Cassius Faison in a shocking twist on the soap’s storyline. While fans picked up cues on the newly returned Nathan being different from what they remembered of the heroic cop, his connection with Faison spells ominous. Since he is deeply connected to many Port Charles residents, including Lulu and James, his secret identity and his interactions with Sidwell are terrifying. Whether he turns completely evil or fails to deliver for Sidwell remains to be seen.

5 conducts that transform Nathan into a villain on General Hospital

1) Embracing the Faison legacy

Unlike the previously known Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), the newly-returned Nathan has shown some disturbing cues that make him surprisingly dark. The recent revelation of his identity as Cassius Faison brings the chilling realization that he has an ulterior motive to pretend to be the good cop, Nathan.

This hints at the legacy of deception and sinister motives, just like the legendary Cesar Faison. While the true identity of Cassius is as yet broadly unknown in town, Britt told Josslyn that her father had four kids, including herself, Nathan, and Peter. That makes Cassius, Cesar Faison’s (Anders Hove) son, so far kept a mystery from other General Hospital characters. As such, he may have inherited Faison’s dark traits.

2) Targeting Sonny Corinthos

A recent General Hospital episode showed Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) ordering “Nathan” to help book his rival, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), for his son’s death. While “Nathan” showed reluctance to do Sidwell’s bidding, the mobster reminded him that he was not the real deal but Cassius pretending to be Nathan.

If Cassius goes after Sonny in compliance with Sidwell’s orders, he will likely employ underhanded methods to book the mob boss while utilizing his closeness with Dante to his advantage. Moreover, being Nathan’s twin, Cassius has earned the trust of various people connected to Sonny. If he goes after the unbeatable mob boss, he will be the ultimate villain.

3) Impersonating the original hero to fool others

As fans now know, Cassius pretended to be Nathan and fooled everyone. Since Nathan was a clean cop and well-liked by all, Cassius slipped easily into the trust circle of residents of Port Charles, thanks to being Nathan’s doppelganger.

He managed to fool Nathan’s former wife, Maxie Jones (Kristen Storms), and her mother, Felicia (Kristina Wagner), who knew Nathan well. Moreover, he passed the fingerprint and DNA tests, proving himself to be Nathan, even for skeptics like Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna). Cassius will exploit this situation to serve his interests.

4) Exploiting Nathan’s family members

By adopting Nathan’s mannerisms and attitude, Cassius infiltrated Nathan’s close circle of family and friends. He set up an emotional reunion with Nathan’s mother, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), his sister, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud)(who seemingly knows the truth), and “sister”, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros).

This set up a psychological trap for Obrecht and Nina that Cassius may later use to his benefit. When the time comes, he may manipulate their love for Nathan to sabotage them from within.

5) Violating James and Lulu’s trust

As mentioned before, Cassius-pretending-as-Nathan gained the trust of people in Port Charles based on Nathan’s past reputation. However, his new relationships with Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) and James West (Gary James Fuller) are the most concerning ones.

Lulu, who discovered “Nathan” at the car accident, has developed romantic feelings for him and is dating him. She may be pulled into a betrayal story arc that is likely to follow as Cassius begins his intended operation. On the other hand, Nathan never met his son, while Cassius made an effort to get to know James and get close to him. While the child loves him as the biological father, Cassius tried to cut Spinelli out of James’ life. He may use James in one of his upcoming plans.

General Hospital: 5 cues that new Nathan may face hurdles

1) Surfacing of genuine feelings

One of the few things that Nathan’s twin, Cassius, may not have foreseen is developing real feelings in place of all pretensions. So far, he has drawn James close, pretending to be the child’s biological father while showing a romantic interest in Lulu.

However, if his romantic feelings for Lulu are genuine, his plans may get derailed. Moreover, Cassius may develop true love for James West. In that case, he will likely be reluctant to use this connection for any benefit if it harms the child.

2) Misjudging Liesl Obrecht’s intuition

As longtime viewers know, Liesl knew Faison well and assisted him with many of his ventures. As such, she is a master of deception and may identify traits that display Faison’s character. Moreover, she is intelligent, loves her children, and has a keen intuition. If Obrecht realizes that this new Nathan is not the real deal, she may stir trouble for Cassius and his agenda.

She will likely not get manipulated by the new version of her son if she sees qualities that remind her of her late husband. While Cassius is also her son, she may not let him soil Nathan's good image. She may stop him before he causes any harm to the memory of the real Nathan. Moreover, Liesl may try to dissuade Cassius or influence his decisions.

3) Facing Dante’s investigation

Dante is an astute cop, Nathan’s former colleague and a detective, and a close friend. Since he knew the real Nathan well, Dante had already begun to have minor suspicions about the newly returned Nathan. He has questioned the new Nathan for investigative inconsistencies and mishandled evidence.

If Dante finds more discrepancies in Nathan’s behavior, he may get alerted about the latter. Moreover, if Cassius starts looking into Sonny and trying to frame him, Dante may begin to suspect his colleague. In such a situation, Cassius-Nathan will face trouble from the PCPD.

4) Returning memory or the past connection

While there is little information about Cassius's past, he may have been kept in a lab to be released at the right time. If Cassius holds some trauma from his lab-controlled days, he may have enough grudge to turn on his own controllers to take revenge.

Moreover, there is a likelihood that Nathan’s memories were planted inside Cassius to account for the missing years. If some of Nathan’s memories resurface, Cassius may face a conflict of personality and purpose. With the good side of Nathan coming out, Cassius may find himself suppressing his evil side.

5) Reckless behavior giving away the truth

One major hurdle in the new Nathan’s evil impersonation is his recklessness while going about town pretending to be the real Nathan. Some recent incidents showed him on the back foot, such as when James forced his extraordinary batsman father to swing the bat, which Cassius failed miserably.

Moreover, he arrived at controversial scenes before the police were informed, such as when Laura found Dalton’s body in her car, and Jason fought Cullum at the piers. Since his actions seem more than coincidental, there may be questions about his presence at the exact locations. This lack of patience will make him a sloppy villain and a suspect in the eyes of Sonny, Jason, and other authorities. It may thwart his evil run.
