Jenz Sidwell is on a dangerous, vengeful journey on General Hospital after unexpectedly losing his son, Marco Rios, who was stabbed to death. He believes Sonny is behind this crime. Before this loss, he befriended Ava Jerome on the pretext of dabbling in art. However, both Sidwell and Ava have their own hidden agendas as well as a common enemy, Sonny Corinthos. While Lucy’s presence in the equation may give the impression of a romantic triangle, Ava and Sidwell’s pairing may be more alarming than a simple romance.
5 reasons Ava and Sidwell are perfect partners on General Hospital
1) Shared goal of ruining Sonny Corinthos

Ava Jerome (Maura West) has a long-standing antagonism towards Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). The duo shares Avery and they are fighting a court battle for the girl’s custody. As such, Ava wants to see Sonny defeated in court and in life.
Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), who is an international crime lord, arrived in Port Charles to take over Sonny’s piers to run his own illegal business in town. He sees Sonny as an adversary who needs to be destroyed. This common enemy will likely provide Ava and Sidwell both an impetus to collaborate.
2) Similar evil power and ruthlessness

As mentioned before, as an internationally operating criminal, Sidwell is evil and ruthless. He is known to calmly hurt people without any conscience, as evident when he kidnapped Sasha and shot Dalton. He did not hesitate to threaten little Ace to blackmail Mayor Laura (Genia Francis) into bending over.
On the other hand, Ava comes from the criminal family of the Jeromes. She is crime lord Victor Jerome’s daughter and Julian Jerome’s sister. She has shown her sinister side often on the soap’s storyline including the time when she watched Sonny writhe in chest pain but refused to hand over the medication, or when she planned with Ric to extort Alexis for the Cassadine money. As such, their similarities make Sidwell and Ava an ideal pair.
3) Common love for power and wealth

As an international felon, Sidwell has the desire for power and to be at the top of his game. While he has money, he wants to run his illegal business smoothly and make more. On one hand, Sidwell flaunts his money while on the other, Ava is broke. After losing her divorce settlement with the Cassadine fortune, she is in dire need of money.
As such, Ava wants to utilize her newfound friendship with Sidwell to good use to get money and power. She may agree to his plans or do his bidding to earn her wealth. This common desire is their binding factor.
4) Connection to Wyndemere and Spoon Island

As General Hospital fans know, Lucy sold Wyndemere to Sidwell, and he is the current resident of Spoon Island. Sometime in the past, Ava Jerome was the lady of the manor through her marriage with Nikolas Cassadine, and likely considers Sidwell the bridge to connect her with her former property.
While she lost all rights to the Cassadine property and their fortune, Ava likely thinks the new owner will provide her with the opportunity to belong to Spoon Island, her romping ground in the past.
5) Adept at high-stakes danger and manipulations

Longtime viewers of General Hospital have witnessed Ava teaming up with several disturbed or dangerous men, including Nikolas and Ryan. Since Sidwell falls in the same category, Ava may find him attractive. Moreover, both Ava and Sidwell are great manipulators and share this dark energy.
On one hand, both have some history dealing with danger and threats, while on the other, they can participate in the same themselves. While Ava was seen extorting Alexis, Sidwell is manipulating Laura. Moreover, both are reckless and daring when it comes to perils.
General Hospital: 5 grounds for Sidwell and Ava’s alliance to fail
1) Marco’s death and Ava’s greed

The current scenario at Port Charles is disturbing for Sidwell after he lost his only son, Marco Rios (Adrian Achondo), to multiple stabbings. At present, Sidwell is a grieving father who is looking to take revenge for his son’s death. As such, he may be unhinged and dangerous. He may target anyone who comes in his way or tries to dissuade him.
On the other hand, Ava reached out to Sidwell for his wealth and power. If Sidwell learns that she wants the Cassadine property back or the money that she lost, he may not take kindly to the fact that Ava considers him an avenue for bankroll.
2) The Avery and Sonny factor

As General Hospital fans already know, Ava is siding with Sidwell so that the latter can take down Sonny, which would eventually benefit her with Avery’s custody. The soap’s past shows that anyone trying to harm Sonny gets caught in crossfire. As such, Ava may become an unintended victim in the Sonny-Sidwell clash.
Moreover, Sidwell is ruthless and may not consider the safety of anyone when it comes to winning his battles. As such, whether Ava or little Avery, Sidwell may not hesitate to hurt others if that benefits him. In such a situation, Ava may find Avery in the line of fire and must break up the alliance.
3) Pressure from WSB and PCPD

Recent developments in Port Charles revealed that Sidwell is working with WSB’s corrupt Director, Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). While Cullum stabbed Marco secretly, he is driving Sidwell’s involvement in the completion of Faison’s project. At the same time, Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) from WSB and the PCPD people, including DA Turner (Nazneen Contractor) and Commissioner Dante (Dominic Falconeri), have their watch on him.
As such, Sidwell is under high pressure from different factions of the law enforcement departments. In such a situation, Ava may not want any police scrutiny on her as Sidwell’s accomplice since she is already in a fragile position for her past crimes and Avery’s custody.
4) Betrayal is a common thread for both

Ava and Sidwell are not known for their loyalties. Since betrayal runs easily for them, any one of them would throw the other under the bus if it endangered their position.
Since Ava is the weaker link here, Sidwell, known for his ruthlessness, may easily throw her aside if she comes in the way or threatens his goal. On the other hand, Ava is an opportunist and can either shrug off her connection if it is detrimental or may snitch on him if she gets a better offer elsewhere.
5) Ava’s miscalculation about Wyndemere and Sidwell

While Ava may think that she has rights to Wyndemere and Spoon Island, her story arc shows that the place has been connected to her dark past and isolation. If she gets trapped on the island with a manipulative person like Sidwell, she may end up losing her advantage and her freedom.
Moreover, Ava may have miscalculated Sidwell when she declared that she could handle people like that. As of now, she is unaware of Sidwell killing Dalton and blackmailing Laura. As someone who shows no respite even to his allies, Sidwell may be more than a handful for Ava to handle.
