Sidwell’s dislike for Sonny on General Hospital moved to the next level after Marco’s death from brutal multiple stabbings. While Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) believed that his enemy targeted him by killing his son, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) tried to convince him that he gains nothing by eliminating Marco Rios (Adrian Achondo). Moreover, the mob boss urged Sidwell to look for the hidden enemy that could turn ruthless easily. However, Sonny failed to sway the grief-stricken mobster who is fixated on his revenge on Sonny.

5 tactics Sidwell may employ to ruin Sonny on General Hospital

1) Framing Sonny for Marco’s murder

As General Hospital fans know, Sidwell believes Sonny is his enemy and has killed Marco. Despite Sonny’s arrival at Marco’s funeral and stating the obvious, Sidwell did not believe him. On the contrary, Sidwell assigned Cassius (Ryan Paevey) with the task of ensuring that Sonny goes down for Marco’s death.

This likely means Sidwell may frame Sonny with questionable evidence, with help from Cassius. Moreover, Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) may have already planted proof against Sonny for the authorities to find them. That will help Sidwell’s goal.

2) Leveraging ongoing blackmail and looping Willow

Sidwell is already framing Sonny and Mayor Laura (Genie Francis) with a picture of Dalton’s dead body in Laura’s car. He is using this to blackmail the mob boss and the mayor to get control of Sonny’s piers for his illegal business. As viewers know, Sidwell is also demanding a helipad of his own that is under review, thanks to Tracy Quartermaine’s (Jane Elliot) complaints.

Sidwell may extend this blackmail further to garner more advantages from the mayor and mob boss duo. He may decide to use it to destroy Sonny’s business and force the rival to leave town. For this purpose, he may use his stooge, the newly-appointed congresswoman, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen), to do his bidding.

3) Targeting Sonny’s children

Sidwell believes Sonny had Marco murdered. As revenge, he may want to hurt one of Sonny’s children. This may seem like a repetition of a sequence of events from the past where Sidwell blew up Charlie’s, the place Kristina co-owned with Lucky, and Sonny briefly held Marco hostage as a message to Sidwell.

With Marco dead, Sidwell has no children to lose. As such, he may go on full length at hurting Sonny’s children, including Dante, Michael, Kristina, Avery, and Donna.

4) Using internal betrayal for an ambush

As General Hospital viewers know, the back-from-dead Detective Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) is in reality his twin, Cassius Faison. Since Cassius is pretending to be Nathan, he has garnered trust and love all around the town. However, Sidwell, and possibly Cullum and Britt, know the truth.

As such, Sidwell will likely want to utilize this advantage. Besides asking Cassius to help pin Marco’s death on Sonny, he may use inside information from PCPD to corner his rival. He may push Cassius to tweak evidence or betray Dante to put the Corinthos patriarch and his family in danger.

5) Employing a professional hitman

One of the easiest moves will likely be hiring a professional hitman to kill Sonny. While the previous attempts at Sonny’s life were unsuccessful, Sidwell may look into the loopholes in the previous schemes to make a foolproof plan.

Moreover, WSB has Jason (Steve Burton), who is Sonny’s right-hand man, and Sidwell may estimate Sonny to be vulnerable without Jason around. As such, he may judge this the best time to take down the mob boss of Port Charles.

General Hospital: 5 reasons Sidwell should refrain from targeting Sonny

1) Lack of concrete evidence

Sonny paid his condolences about Marco’s demise and told Sidwell in clear terms that he had nothing to do with the brutal crime. However, Sidwell was reluctant to accept this claim. On the contrary, he tasked Cassius with helping take down Sonny for Marco’s murder.

A lack of evidence or fake evidence may not be a wise move for Sidwell to frame Sonny. While targeting him without proof will be a strategic mistake, trying to plant proof may be difficult. That would make Sonny, Sidwell’s most powerful enemy.

2) Realizing the possibility of an internal killer

Sonny warned Sidwell about another hidden killer who eliminated the latter’s son. While Sidwell proceeded to reject Sonny’s explanation, he should have thought things through. If there is no plausible evidence against Sonny’s involvement, Sidwell must give value to Sonny’s claim. While neither of them knows about Cullum as yet, there are hints about Cullum’s involvement in the explosion at Sonny’s penthouse.

Since Sonny’s life was targeted more than once, and it was not Sidwell every time, the latter should realize that there may be another killer who might be targeting both Sonny and Sidwell. Moreover, the unknown murderer might have access to intel about Sidwell.

3) Appreciating Sonny’s transparency and logic

As General Hospital fans witnessed, Sonny arrived at the church to pay respects at Marco’s funeral. At the time, he claimed to have no connection with Marco’s death, which Sidwell failed to acknowledge, as mentioned before. He went on to promise Marco revenge for his death and make Sonny pay.

However, if Sidwell pauses and thinks clearly, he may be able to appreciate Sonny’s transparency. On one hand, the mob boss arrived to offer condolences, while on the other, he reasoned with Sidwell about not being involved. Moreover, Sonny presented the lack of motive and the wrong operative method to connect him to the cruel murder. If Sidwell weighs Sonny’s words, he may realize why they ring true.

4) Forming a powerful alliance against a common enemy

If Sidwell understands that Marco’s cause of death does not corroborate with his style of crime, he may start to worry about another criminal targeting him. Once Sidwell understands the possibility of another enemy, who is also targeting Sonny, he may realize the importance of giving up on fighting the mob boss.

In such a scenario, Sidwell may offer to come together with Sonny to fight the shared enemy. Sidwell understands that Sonny can be a formidable friend in this war. Whether he avails of this powerful alliance remains to be seen.

5) Save himself and his empire from another attack

As an extension of the previous argument, in the scenario that Sidwell understands the possibility of an enemy other than Sonny, he needs to stay alert. Since neither of them knows the identity of their enemy as yet, they need to team up to fight the unknown.

Meanwhile, Sidwell’s career as an international crime lord may be in danger from this unknown enemy. That may include the safety of his own life. If Sidwell stops chasing his fixation with Sonny and starts focusing on the real culprit of Marco’s death, he may be able to save his own empire from ruin.
