General Hospital's Willow Tait continues to prey on Harrison Chase's trust in her. While she goes around town making questionable alliances to hide her crimes, she remains straight-faced when Chase claims that Willow could never drug anyone or do anything less than virtuous (except cheat on her husbands). This facade of an innocent, honest woman hiding Willow's true malicious side has managed to fool Chase long enough and even broke his marriage.

5 Paths Willow Employs to Keep Chase Hooked

1) Appreciating unwavering trust and admiration

Despite her cheating on him when they were briefly married, Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) still adores Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen). While claiming to be dedicated to his own marriage, Chase continued to admire Willow and consider her a victim of circumstances whenever things went sideways for her.

Willow sought to keep Chase's admiration in place and behaved accordingly. She kept her victim image intact before Chase to ensure at least one person in Port Charles believes that she is innocent.

2) Turning to Chase for support and advice

As recent events have shown, Willow turned to Chase for all the support she could get from him. She stoked his hero complex, and Chase indulged in an unauthorized investigation for Willow, resulting in his demotion. Even after Lulu Spencer's (Alexa Havins Bruening) article was published with an exposé on Willow, Chase refused to believe a word of it.

On one hand, Chase assumed that his wife and her family paid Lulu to write the incriminating article. Moreover, he emphasized that Willow was too good a person to harm anyone. Willow allowed Chase to defend her even though she was guilty of the crimes alleged. As such, Chase advised Willow to file a defamation suit against Lulu.

3) Accepting Chase's suggestion in legal battle

As mentioned before, Chase believed that Willow was a victim in all the situations she was embroiled in. Whether it was her fiancé, Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) getting shot in the back or Drew suffering an ischemic stroke after their marriage, Willow was the poor hapless woman whom fate treated unfairly.

As such, when Lulu's article alleged that Willow had drugged Drew to keep him paralyzed, Chase refused to believe any such thing. A furious Chase suggested that Willow sue Lulu for libel. Despite cautionary advice from Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), Willow listened to Chase's advice and hired Monet (Blythe Howard) to represent her. As Britt guessed, Willow was trying to live up to Chase's image of her even though Lulu's accusations were right. Later, Willow gave Chase a flimsy excuse for withdrawing the case.

4) Extracting personal comfort and reassurances

Willow has been taking advantage of Chase's attitude towards her by being nice to him. She encouraged him to feel like the heroic cop and her knight in shining armor by leaning on him for help. From running a parallel investigation for her to unknowingly framing Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) for a crime he didn't commit, Chase has done it all for Willow.

More recently, when Michael forced Willow to move into the Quartermaine gatehouse, Chase was seen helping her out with the move. Willow also expressed the right amount of grief and regret over Chase's broken marriage, ensuring that he saw her as a friend.

5) Keeping Chase blind to the realities

In all these machinations, as fans already know, Willow has left Chase in the dark about the realities. When she realized that Chase trusted her blindly, she played on that image. Willow cried on Chase's shoulders about being accused of shooting Drew and later about having to care for a paralytic husband. She expressed regret over Chase's demotion when she was enjoying a better career as the congresswoman.

Willow struck questionable deals, such as her deal with mobster Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) for the paralytic drug and, later, an arrangement with a recovered Drew to hide each other's crimes from the authorities. While half of Port Charles seems to know Willow's crimes, the congresswoman prefers to keep Chase in the dark about it and play on his belief that she's the innocent victim who can do no wrong.
