5 Ways Sonny's Vow to Leave the Mob is About to be Tested on GH

General Hospital's Sonny Corinthos is facing a tough test as his decision to exit the crime world may get challenged. After years of operating in a particular way, he may find it difficult to adapt to the civilian way of living and operating. His recent actions hint at a continuance in his signature mob style.

While his right-hand man, Jason Morgan, has left the mob behind him, Sonny may still be stuck in his old ways and old network. He was recently seen lining up people to keep an eye on his rival, Jenz Sidwell, inside the prison. However, with some inmates beating up Sidwell and his cellmate, Curtis Ashford, while name-dropping Sonny, the latter is likely to come under the legal radar. As part of his defense strategy, there is a likelihood that Sonny will get sucked back into the mob.

5 Challenges for Sonny's Plan of Staying Away from Crime on GH

Recently, a few Pentonville inmates surrounded Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and harassed him. As his cellmate, Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) intervened, violence ensued and both Curtis and Sidwell were brutally beaten. The assailants name-dropped Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), saying Sonny owed Sidwell even more.

As the two victims are treated for injuries, the PCPD is likely to suspect Sonny is behind this. While Sonny may not admit to the crime, fans saw him meeting with Vito away from Ric. With Curtis being a victim, the list of people having a grudge against him may grow, including Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) and Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson). Whether Sonny is liable for the attack on Sidwell or not, he may keep his mob network and his resources handy to retaliate if needed.

2) Pushing back against Drew and Ava's attack

Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) recovered from his paralysis and resumed his animosity with Sonny. This time, he also roped in Sonny's longtime enemy and baby mama, Ava Jerome (Maura West). After learning that Sonny plans to quit the mob, Drew and Ava planned to target the former mobster when he would be at his weakest.

With Ava threatening him openly, Sonny may learn about this and want to stay ready to retaliate. Since mob violence is the only language Sonny knows well, he may use his criminal force to strike back against Drew. Moreover, Drew may become a formidable adversary and Sonny may need to fall back on crime to get even.

3) Protection for his family and friends

Despite Sonny's desire to leave the mob over the years, he stayed to keep his family safe. However, he decided to let go of his dangerous world after seeing the vision of his deceased father following his heart surgery. Unfortunately, every time Sonny planned to walk away, danger to his family pulled him back into the powerful world of crime.

If his enemies try to attack his children or his ex-wives, with no support from his trusted wingman, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), Sonny may feel the urge to shield them using his old methods. As such, he would need ultimate strength to stand his ground and stay clean.

Sonny's exit from the mob world will leave a void in the world of illegal business and power struggles. As other players vie to fill this gap, Port Charles may end up attracting dangerous criminals wishing to operate in town. These new players may clash with the law enforcers, the PCPD and the DA's office, leading to risk of bloodshed.

Since Sonny has protected his town for years and shares a good rapport with some of the law enforcing departments, he may feel the need to step in and help keep the streets free of violence. The dilemma would be strong, as the former mob boss fights the urge to set his resolution aside and step forward to resist the external operators from taking over.

The violence inside the prison has Sonny's name as the main suspect. Since the PCPD will likely investigate his connection, Sonny's secret girlfriend, Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor), would prefer to stay away from him. As Justine has always maintained, she will not let emotion ruin her career.

Since Justine and Sonny kept their romance a secret to spare the ADA any public embarrassment, it would be easy for her to shake off any connection with Sonny. Moreover, she may refuse to help him even covertly. As such, with no support or assistance from his legal network, Sonny may consider resorting to the world he knows best, the mob. It may take immense resistance to withstand the temptation and respect legal proceedings.
