General Hospital's Jason Morgan has informed his boss and BFF, Sonny Corinthos, in no uncertain terms that he is quitting mob life. While Sonny has been Jason's other half since his 1996 accident, his recent harrowing experience in a WSB black site has changed his perspective.

Since his return to Port Charles, Jason has shown visible signs of emotional trauma. Moreover, as he told Sonny, Jason was shaken by the stricken look on Rocco’s face after shooting Cullum and the desperate pain in Danny’s expression when the WSB drove him aay. Realizing that the adults must be there for the teenagers to rely upon, Jason is done with the mob.

As General Hospital fans have seen over the years, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) repaid the support that he received from Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) after his life-altering accident by having his boss’s back through thick and thin. Whether it was cleaning up a mob mess or saving Sonny from rival attacks, Jason was the dependable right-hand man.

While Sonny may hire other hitmen and have his brother, Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst), to support him, no one can replace Jason. With recently-employed henchman, Ethan Lovett (now played by Christian Howard), skipping town, Sonny may be left open to attacks from his rivals. As fans know, the mob boss has multiple enemies, which include law enforcers, spy organizations, rival mobsters, and old warring families.

Jason’s longtime friend, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) has known the hitman since his early days in the mob. With their friendship lasting decades, Carly is as dependent on Jason as she is on Sonny. With Jason choosing to step away from the world of crime, Carly may need to see him in a new light. On one hand, she cannot rush to him for help in any dangerous situation, while on the other, she may find his homebody persona weird. Moreover, with more people cognizant about Jason’s decision, Carly, alongside Sonny, may be exposed to mob retaliations from the past.

Over the the past nearly two years since his mother’s death, Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn) has become lonely and emotionally dependent on his father, siblings and extended family. Unfortunately, his uncle Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) forbade him from being around his half-sister, Scout Cain (now played by Kayden Brenna Tokarski). When Jason was arrested and taken to Jakarta, Danny was left rudderless. To add to his problems, Danny learned that Jason took a fall for his best friend, Rocco’s (Finn Carr) crime, causing a rift in the friendship.

As such, Jason’s decision to be there for Danny makes sense. However, Danny’s protection came from the fact that he was hitman Jason’s son, so a new job could cause trouble.

Jason's recent decision to step away from the crime world poses new professional challenges. Jason has been working in the mob world and as such, may not be skilled to take up any other profession. However, after turning away from Sonny, he may have complete autonomy over his life, his actions, and his schedule.
