On General Hospital, Gio and Emma have become arguably the most popular new couple on the show.
Fans have followed along and cheered them on as they experienced a slow build for more than a year. They spent a year growing closer as friends and helping each other through big problems before sharing their first kiss.
This week, they took the next step in their relationship, making love for the first time. It happened spontaneously after Gio (Giovanni Mazza) showed up to Anna’s apartment to see her. Emma (Braedyn Bruner) continued to be worried about Anna’s (Finola Hughes) absence as she takes care of the apartment by herself, and Gio comforted her.
New General Hospital couple has lots of supporters
Eventually, with help from the classic soap opera trope of a faulty furnace turning the room into a tropical sauna, they decided to share their own heat.
The whole sequence warmed the hearts of General Hospital fans who love the pairing “Gemma.” From Gio sweetly and gently asking consent beforehand, to the aftermath, when the couple discussed their hopes and dreams while sharing new ideas for their college plans, General Hospital fans were thrilled that they took the next step.
On X, the user @Kryingkrys commented, “Gio asking Emma's consent was a VERY important moment. I'm so happy the writers included it.”
@MelissaRabb1 loves the couple’s friendship and chemistry, saying “I thought it was super cute was when Emma said she thought they were just going to be friends, best friends. And Gio said, I'm your best friend? Like we're besties? They have such a natural comedic rapport as well as being adorable w/ just a touch of hot.” @Irishgirls59581 hopes that the children of several legacy families can build their own lasting history, “Emma & Gio have the potential to be a long lasting couple. Braedyn & Giovanni have natural chemistry.”
@LawsBackInTown loved that the focus was on romance, “I absolutely adore these two!! This is one of the best romantic love scenes I have seen on the show ever!! You can just feel love from both of them. Thank you for giving us such a real genuine scene.” @Robyns032091957 made a parallel with Emma’s mother, Robin (Kimberly McCullough), saying “Emma & Gio have the sweetness & tenderness of Robin & Stone. Emma & Gio are special.”
Fans also loved that Gio was giving Emma advice, a turnaround from his drama-filled life as he struggles to handle his relationship with his birth parents Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). She was by his side when he played a violin again at Christmastime.
Some fans love that Emma now wants to be a veterinarian and take care of animals that way.
On X, @SoapsSpoilers said “Emma’s going to become a vet. Adorable. They’re just so cute.”
Of course, with any General Hospital couple, there are bound to be problems. The most immediate one is that Emma’s grandmother is being held captive in Wyndemere and is being used in Faison's mysterious last project. Neither Emma nor anyone else in Anna’s circle knows this yet. In fact, some fans loved how Gio was worried that Anna was going to return home and catch them in bed.
General Hospital head writers Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte said in a December interview that Emma would eventually be involved in trying to rescue Anna.
But Emma’s not there yet, as she is only concerned that her grandma has abandoned her.
