What just happened on General Hospital? Did we really just witness a week like no other, with two absolutely perfect episodes in a row, delivering shock, awe, heartbreak, tears, intrigue, and heart-pounding moments beat after beat? Oh yes, we sure did. And wasn't it sublime? There's a lot to unpack, Scoopers, so let's just get to it and behold soap opera in its purest form.

Jason Morgan messed up...here's why

From the moment Jason Morgan made his way back to Port Charles after two years working for the FBI, we noticed something different about him. This Jason was truly all about family. His FBI undercover name was Alan Jacobs, a tribute to his father, Alan Quartermaine, and his son, Jacob 'Jake' Webber.

As the year went on, we saw some hints of the old Jason Q in there, the boy who was lost nearly 30 years ago after a fateful incident with a car, a tree, and his brother, AJ. When Jason chose to move back into Monica's house, so that Danny, Scout, and Rocco could stay together after Sam's death, we rejoiced because Jason Quartermaine was coming home for the first time since 1996. A few months later, when he chose Monica's happiness over Sonny's demands by siding with Tracy over Wiley and Amelia, it was a quiet yet seismic moment that illustrated a change in Jason. That stunning change left Tracy absolutely speechless (a miracle unto itself).

Then came Monica's death. It hit Jason in ways we never expected as an audience, especially after watching him keep Monica (and the other Qs) at arm's length for years. He had certainly come to love them again after the life-altering effects of the accident that left him brain-damaged with no memories and a new, more detached personality. But nearly a year living in that house again seemed to have a profound effect on Jason, and it showed, especially when he chose to mingle with actual people and be the greeter at Monica's memorial.

So, when Jason readied his rifle in his firearm storage facility last week, he didn't think of any of his great romances (including his bromance with Sonny). Instead, he flashed back to Tracy remembering Monica the night Jason found she had passed in her sleep. Jason had just said goodbye to his son in what is now Tracy's house, not sure when he would return, so the hitman wasn't pure hitman anymore. He was a son, a nephew, a father.

And when he got on that roof, he was rattled. He had Cullum in his crosshairs, but the Jason Morgan who had met Carly before he met Sonny, had his eyes focused on Jack, remembering when Carly nearly died from polonium poisoning last year. He then trained his crosshairs on Jack for a split second and lost his chance at Cullum. And then, Jason was a dad. He looked at his watch and realized he had to get to Danny's basketball game and left. That wasn't the usual Jason Morgan on that roof. That was a new man we like to call Jason Quartermorgan. We love him, but he was why what happened on the pier happened.

Just stay the heck off Pier 55

We are glad that Josslyn and Britt finally addressed this on Friday. Pier 55 has bad luck for both Jason and Britt and they really shouldn't go there anymore for any reason whatsoever. We mentioned this last week when Britt rendezvoused with Lucas there. It's where she rescued Joss from The Hook (aka Heather Webber) and where Britt received that allegedly fatal cut on her chest. Pier 55 is also where Britt's dad shot Jason and kicked him into the river in 2012, causing Port Charles to think he was dead for a few years. And now, Jason and Britt can look back and tell the grandkids (we jest) that they have a Pier 55 moment to share that changed their lives.

Honestly, there is nothing better than when a soap completely stuns you, and that is exactly what GH did. First, when Jason got to the pier, he was again off his game. Because he had given his gun to Dante, so he couldn't just take a quick shot to stop Cullum from killing Britt. He had to tackle him and get the gun out of his hands. Jason might be able to take a few swings at his dingbat of a brother when he is not under pressure, but when he is (and when he doesn't have a gun), things aren't so easy.

We knew that Rocco was there lurking in the background, but we almost forgot about him in the scuffle. When Cullum broke out that metal stick (we weren't sure what to call it, but Rocco solved that problem), it was hard to tell what was actually happening. Cullum was standing there roaring and then he fell. It all happened so fast that neither Jason nor the audience heard the gunshot, but then we saw Rocco — ROCCO!!! — with the literal smokin' gun in his hand.

Jason was stunned, as was the entire GH fandom, as our jaws collectively fell to the floor and our hearts broke in a million pieces because Rocco is not just Lulu's baby, he is our baby too.

Rocco, poor baby

On Christmas Eve, we declared that Rocco deserved the best Christmas of anyone in Port Charles and we don't think that is going to change in 2026. The boy who ended up with alcohol poisoning because he wanted to fit in, and who just wanted to rescue some dogs and ended up beaten behind bars as a reward, has blown past those tribulations faster than a speeding bullet, so to speak. And it's only March.

We are not sure whether to be horrified or proud. But as GH fans, we have to be proud because Rocco is following in so many footsteps before him. There's Grandpa Sonny, who shot a man on a Brooklyn pier as his initiation into the mob when he wasn't much older than Rocco. There's Uncle Michael, who shot a woman when he was not much older than Rocco, all to save his baby sister, who grew up to be a dingbat of a super spy.

Rocco is the rescue hero of the hour and the year. He thought fast and did the only thing he could. He saved Danny's dad, which is what every single good brother should do. There aren't too many heroes like Rocco around, especially heroes who go home to their moms, fall into Mom's arms, and make every woman in the audience just want to give him a big ol' hug. We are all Rocco's mom now, so move over, Lulu (and Britt), we want him.

Danny, poor baby

So, um, how is Danny going to feel when he learns what really happened to his dad? On the one hand, Rocco saved Jason from certain death. On the other hand, Jason was just carted off to God only knows where, taking him from Danny, for a crime that Jason did not commit (for a change).

As Lulu explained, Rocco saved Danny's life, so Jason decided to return the favor, even if it took him away from everyone he loved. And ok, we also wanted to give Danny a big ol' hug, so now we've adopted two teenage sons to add to our actual teenage son, who has the same basic hairdo as Danny and Rocco. Our teenage son even has the name of Danny's half-brother, so it works.

But seriously, who didn't want to just scoop Danny up and let him cry as he said goodbye to his dad? All the poor boy wanted was for his father to watch his basketball game and the next thing he knows, Dad is headed to international prison and he's not sure he will ever see him again. Danny cried, Jason cried, Britt cried, and we all cried.

Government-sanctioned kidnapping

You know what's better than Jason being presumed dead again? Jason not being presumed dead again. When we first learned that Steve Burton was taking a few months off, we feared General Hospital would take the easy way out and make us and the rest of Port Charles mourn Jason for a third time when we just did it for a second time five years ago.

Instead, Jason was disappeared by the government, without due process, and taken to parts unknown, as Alexis needed to correctly point out. There seems to be a lot of that going around these days, but at least it keeps Jason front burner even when he is not around. This time, we know he will be back, so GH set him up with a built-in return story.

So, what about Britt? Well, she and Jason declared their love for one another before he got in the van, so we guess she will wait for him, maybe? In the meantime, how does she stay alive without her meds and without Sidwell coming after her? Even with Cullum temporarily incapacitated, Sidwell is going to start asking questions...when he comes up for air from his grief.

Marco...Lucas...just pass the tissues

Lucas is heartbroken and Marco is dead | Image: ABC

Just when Lucas finally found some happiness, GH decided Lucas wasn't allowed to be happy. Instead, it forced Lucas to save the life of the man who killed his boyfriend, although he didn't know it at the time. As if Lucas hasn't been having a hard enough time, when he learns the whole truth about what happened to Marco, it's going to destroy him.

The writing had been on the wall for Marco for weeks, but we didn't want to believe it. Now, Lucas has to mourn, Sidwell has to mourn, and our lovely Ava gets to be there for both of them. There is something very special about Ava and Lucas' relationship, but she also brings out the humanity in Sidwell.

We can't imagine Sidwell going to Lucy to break down, but he had no problem running to Ava. They also have a lot in common as both their children were brutally stabbed in a shockingly horrifying manner. Can Ava be the one to talk some sense into Sidwell and convince him that Sonny had nothing to do with Marco's death? If she wants to keep Avery safe, she had better.

Sonny Corinthos enters the chat

Poor Sonny is done with all this, but nobody will let him be done with all this. He just wants to hang out at home with his rescue dog, making pizza, carbonara, and glitter candles with Donna, but nobody will let him. So, Sonny has to sigh, put all that aside, and figure out how to get the yin to his yang back in Port Charles and away from the WSB.

But behold! Sonny has a Jason replacement! He might not be a hitman of not-so-many words, but he's the sidekick Sonny always needed. Sonny and Ric are going to make their mama proud as they team up to bring Sidwell to his knees and bring Jason home. Some fans are wary of this newfound partnership between Sonny and Ric, but we think the cuffs, gurney, and ball gag did Ric some good last summer. He seems like a new man...one that comes with a wink and a smile. So, let's see what these brothers can do.

Josslyn, shhhhhh....

Britt is going to get sick of Josslyn pretty fast | Image: ABC

Okay, enough with Josslyn being a super spy. It didn't work a year ago and it still doesn't work, especially now that we know she only joined "the bureau" to take down Sonny and anyone like him "mercifully."

So, what happened to this merciful thing she mentioned? Cause we don't think killing an unconscious man on a ventilator is very merciful. We guess that was all part of a rehearsed speech for her mother. Jack already said he regrets recruiting this dingbat into the WSB, so can he do something about this so the grown-ups can get back to work?

Get in line for General Hospital's 'Caradine'

Valentin's move with the bread was pretty slick | Image: ABC

And then we have...Caradine. Carly is the luckiest lady on soaps, having the perfect attic boyfriend all to herself, ready and waiting to cook her coq vin and then rock her world. Too bad Carly couldn't be completely grateful for what she's lucked into. But that's okay. When Valentin is smitten, he is not one to be deterred. Just ask Nina and Anna.

And now Valentin is going to save the day. Jason is now in international prison and Valentin is in Carly's house. The roles have been reversed, but Charlotte's dad is going to help Danny's dad, so it's all good.

It's all hands on deck to save Jason, and we have Carly and Valentin, the most surprising ship we ever imagined, leading the way. And, that's a wrap.
