Former General Hospital star Sydney Mikayla, who played Trina, has weighed in on her current and past careers as her new film opens.
“Of course, I want to shout-out Tabyana Ali for killing the role of Trina Robinson,” she told Soap Opera Digest while promoting Crybaby Bridge, in which she plays Samantha Kane. “Playing Trina was an honor, honestly. I came on as a day player, which essentially means that I just kind of signed on to be on maybe for an episode or two, and if they wanna extend it, they can.”
Mikayla enjoyed playing Trina on General Hospital

Mikayla said she was grateful that the short-term role became four years of happy memories. She also spoke about Trina’s relationship with Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), which became a viral sensation on GH, and said how much she loved working with Chavez, who has since gone on to big projects like playing Lyle Menendez in the Netflix series Monster. "I’m really grateful for that," she said of her time in Port Charles. "I had a ball, and I hope Tabyana is having a ball!”
Mikayla is the lead in the new movie, Crybaby Bridge. The logline for the psychological horror drama says, “After being bullied at school, a pregnant teen's family sets out to move from the city to the countryside, unexpectedly revealing a coveted secret of her past that threatens the fresh start they seek.”
She said she enjoyed discovering parts of her current character that were different from playing Trina on GH.
“Sam had a darker tint to her; Trina had a lot more of that light and warmth,” Mikayla told SOD. “I feel like Trina and I agreed on everything ... Sam was the complete opposite….It was definitely a fun exploration to play someone that is so different from me.”
Her mother in the film is played by Florencia Lozano, who portrayed Téa Delgado on both One Life to Live and General Hospital, and the two are now friends after spending time together making the movie. "She has such a bright and youthful energy, but she was such a maternal figure to me," Mikayla said.
The former GH performer was nominated twice for Daytime Emmys in the Younger Performer category for playing Trina. She left in 2022 to focus on her studies at UCLA. She graduated from UCLA last September and said she wants to do a comedy next.
Mikayla said balancing schoolwork with playing Trina was stressful at times, but still enjoyable, and she is now looking forward to being able to focus on one project at a time.
“I feel like I did really immerse myself in General Hospital and I got to make amazing relationships with the cast and crew, and I got some accolades that I’m so forever grateful for,” Mikayla said.
