General Hospital Best of the Week July 27 to 31: Drew Returned From the Deep With Revenge on His Mind

General Hospital spent the week discovering that attempted murder is apparently no obstacle to a brisk recovery, a hostile divorce, or several follow-up appointments. Drew climbed out of the koi pond with his voice restored and enough upper-body definition to suggest paralysis had included a private gym membership. He then terrorized Willow until Jack arrived with a gun and a folder full of federal crimes, which proved more effective than any medical treatment Drew had received in months.

Elsewhere, Anna argued with Peter inside her own head while dressed for a very elegant nervous breakdown, Lucas performed a textbook spit take after Joe noticed something between Dante and Liz, and Ethan fled town so quickly that he left his chemistry with Ava behind. Willow ended the week free of Drew, Scotty remained safely installed in Key West, and several pieces of Trina’s makeup may still be living independently at the Metro Court pool.

Spotlight Scenes

Lucas and Joe’s conversation at the baseball game delivered one of the week’s most reliable comedy moves when Joe casually asked whether Dante and Liz were dating. Lucas immediately sprayed his drink, turning a perfectly ordinary question into the clearest possible sign that Joe had noticed something nobody else had. The spit take has survived generations of sitcoms, sketch shows, and nervous dinner-table conversations for a reason: sometimes the body reacts before the character has time to invent a dignified answer.

The moment also helped push Lucas and Joe closer without forcing the issue. Joe’s detective instincts impressed Lucas, their conversation continued easily, and the discovery that both men were looking for somewhere to live gave them another reason to stay in each other’s orbit. Whether this becomes romance remains to be seen, but the show certainly gave them a playful start. Nothing says potential connection quite like shared housing leads, softball advice, and one beverage leaving the body at considerable speed.

Wardrobe MVPs

Anna spent the week arguing with the most dangerous voice in the room, which happened to be coming from inside her own head. Her conversations with Peter gave that struggle a face, allowing viewers to watch her fear and anger push back against the part of her that wanted Britt dead. Wes Ramsey’s return made the device work even better, since Peter could stalk around the room, challenge her choices, and behave like a real threat even though Anna was the only person truly there.

She also managed the entire psychological crisis in a flowing white top and dark jeans that looked elegant without feeling overdressed for an afternoon of imaginary murder advice. The wide sleeves gave her every gesture a little extra movement, especially when she tried to wave Peter and his demands out of her mind. Anna may have been losing an argument with her subconscious, but she was not about to let it defeat the outfit.

Best Camera Moment

Drew’s return began with the kind of entrance that would have been romantic in almost any other marriage: a darkened house, a husband standing in the doorway, and “Honey, I’m home.” Unfortunately, the husband was soaking wet, furious, and had spent months imagining how he would punish the wife who shot him and helped keep him trapped inside his own body.

Willow barely had time to process the fact of Drew walking and talking before he blocked her exit, took her phone, and began explaining exactly how thoroughly he planned to destroy her life. He threatened to expose her to the children, send her to prison, and make sure Michael erased her from their memories, which was a fairly ambitious first conversation for a man who had only recently regained the use of his legs. When Willow looked at a nearby baseball bat, Drew laughed at the idea that she could stop him, threw a bowl across the room, and moved toward her. The reunion had officially skipped the flowers and gone directly to felony territory.

Nina and Jack arrived before Drew could follow through, with Jack pointing a gun and carrying something even more dangerous: paperwork. The evidence from the black box tied Drew to misappropriated federal money, the bribed nurse who kept Willow away from Michael, and a corrupt judge who later turned up dead. Drew denied the final accusation but seemed perfectly willing to accept decades in prison if it meant taking everyone else down with him.

That was when Willow stopped reacting like prey and started negotiating. She proposed that everything they had done to each other disappear into permanent silence, that Drew announce his recovery however he pleased, and that they end the marriage immediately. He could keep the house and the money, while she kept the considerable privilege of never having to hear him call her his loving wife again. Nina added that Drew would not reclaim his congressional seat, and Jack made it clear that refusing the deal would turn his miraculous recovery into a very long federal prison sentence.

Drew eventually agreed, mostly because even revenge loses some of its charm when it comes with several 20-year sentences attached. He warned Willow that the WSB might betray her, which was reasonable advice. Jack and Nina left once the agreement was settled, leaving Willow to provide the scene with its final flourish. She removed her wedding rings, dropped them onto the floor, and called the clatter “the sound of freedom.”

Drew waited until she was gone before promising that her freedom would not last, so the divorce may have ended the marriage without removing any of the poison. Still, Willow walked out of that house single, alive, and smiling, while Drew stood behind her with his voice restored and absolutely nothing pleasant to say with it.

Observations, Complaints & Unhinged Theories

Nina’s attempt to rescue Drew after pushing him into the koi pond was hilariously feeble. She called his name a few times, stared at the water, and apparently decided that completed the rescue portion of her afternoon before running off to find Jack.

Drew must have been working out like a fiend during his months of immobility, since he returned to his feet looking noticeably more muscular than before. Apparently, revenge is excellent resistance training. Willow was just as energized after escaping the marriage, although challenging Michael for custody while still celebrating her victory may come back to bite her.

Trina dropped her purse near the pool, sending several makeup items rolling across the ground and into the water. Since that was clearly not part of the scene, she continued with the dialogue and left the cosmetics to complete their unscheduled escape without her, creating a hilarious blooper. Similarly, in a previous scene at the boathouse, a bottle of sunblock appeared and mysteriously vanished in the next scene. The continuity supervisor might have been on vacation this week.

The recast Ethan returned without his Australian accent and developed almost no chemistry with Ava before abruptly fleeing Port Charles. If the new character, Hudson, turns out to be Phoebe’s dangerous biological father, anyone frightening enough to make Ethan abandon his job, Ava, and an entire accent deserves immediate attention.

Curtis remained delusional, convinced that winning his court case would remove Isaiah from Dez’s life, even after Marshall and Stella explained that biology does not disappear with a favorable verdict. Isaiah later told Britt to “swing for the fences,” which may have been a small nod to Days of our Lives' Drake Hogestyn with the hospital softball game approaching.

Scotty was finally mentioned and is apparently living his best life in Key West. Even a passing reference offers some hope that Port Charles’ most colorfully dressed attorney might eventually wander home.

By Friday, Drew had regained almost everything except perspective, Willow had replaced her wedding ring with an alarming amount of confidence, and Curtis was still treating a custody dispute like biology might surrender under cross-examination. Jason grew suspicious of Tristan, Anna’s subconscious continued demanding a body count, and Hudson frightened Ethan into abandoning Port Charles before anyone could locate the missing Australian accent. Join us next week when the Quartermaines install a Drew-proof gate, the Metro Court appoints a lifeguard for wandering cosmetics, and the five families will determine whether koi ponds can legally refuse further involvement in domestic disputes.
