General Hospital has done a phenomenal job at preserving the legacy of Robin Scorpio, and Kimberly McCullough is synonymous with the role. Viewers watched Robin grow up in real time, something unheard of on soaps. Most characters get rapidly aged at some point, but McCullough has remained as Robin since her inception. Minus a few sporadic appearances, Robin has been largely off canvas since 2016. With a grown-up Emma in Port Charles, and Anna entangled in Faison's final project, Robin is needed more than ever. However, it's time to face the harsh reality that a new face may need to step into the role.
A recast may be neccesary on General Hospital

Robin is a legacy character, and that passion from viewers comes with a lot of love. However, as beloved as McCullough may be, the conversation cannot be avoided any longer. Whatever is keeping the actress from popping into Port Charles more often may indicate a need for a recast. From a storyline standpoint, the character is needed on the canvas. With Emma back in town, and a full-fledged adult, and Anna once again roped into the WSB's entanglement with Faison, Robin is the perfect person to balance everything out. She could be there for her daughter while also helping her mother deal with her past demons.
Emma's relationship with Anna has been sweet to watch develop, but she needs her mother. Emma's relationship with Gio is one specific area where it would be nice for her to have Robin in town, since Anna is a bit too overprotective of her granddaughter. She tends to hover a bit (prior to her abduction), and Robin might have a bit more understanding of Emma's natural need to further her bond with Gio. There's nothing inherently wrong with Anna's desire to protect her family, but it can sometimes border on suffocating.
Regarding Anna, Robin could be the perfect person to help locate her missing mother. Although Emma has mentioned that Robin isn't as worried about Anna's whereabouts as she is, the longer it goes on, the more concerned Robin becomes. Since Robin has experience dealing with the Faison of it all, she could be the key to uncovering why her mother dropped off the grid entirely. Also, with Faison's children seemingly rising from the graveyard on a regular basis, throwing Anna's daughter into the mix would be a delightful counter.
Robin and Patrick could steer the ship at GH

There are several reasons beyond Anna and Emma that could drive Robin back to Port Charles. The obvious is that at some point, Robert Scorpio's character is going to perish on-screen, and it would be a disservice to everyone if Tristan Rogers' TV daughter didn't make an appearance for the storyline. However, even outside Robin's immediate family, there are a few pressing issues that could prompt the talented doctor to relocate to the place she once called home.
The Chief of Staff position at GH is in flux following Portia Robinson's gross misuse of her power. Robin could take over the role and restore some much-needed order to the position and staff. Patrick returning alongside Robin could be an even better upgrade, signaling a shift toward returning the hospital to the forefront of the show's storylines. Sometimes, in all of the mob violence and wacky spy plots, the foundation of the show, the heartbeat of the entire operation, the hospital is shoved to the back burner.
With so many areas on the show in desperate need of someone like Robin to help stabilize them, it's more apparent than ever how badly she is needed. The best course of action is to bring McCullough back for Robert's sendoff, and then have the tough conversations about ushering in a new era for the character with a fresh face. While her time as Robin will always be cherished amongst fans, it's almost a disservice to the ongoing storylines to keep Robin off-screen to preserve McCullough's place.
