General Hospital Rehash, May 5: Is Sonny going to owe Ric a massive apology?

General Hospital's Sonny is one sought-after man — by two men who just want to serve him. And poor Sonny doesn't know which one of them to trust. That fact looked like it was about to put Ric in a bad situation on the May 5, 2026 episode.

Last week, we really did think Ric (Rick Hearst) was about to betray Sonny (Maurice Benard) without really meaning to. He is clearly jealous of Ethan (Nathan Dean), so when he took Ava (Maura West) aside at the Metro Court Gardens, we thought he was telling her that Lucy (Lynn Herring) is scamming Sidwell (Carlo Rota). We weren't sure what his motive was, but now we don't think that is what happened at all.

Ava returned to the table where Lucy and Sidwell were sitting, but we never learned what Ric actually told her. Now, we wonder if it was something completely innocuous and had nothing to do with Sidwell at all. Whatever Ric said, he wants to keep it from Sonny, but for all we know it's a surprise that involves Avery. After all, Ava and Sonny do share a child.

A big mistake on Sonny's part?

Ethan was watching the scene at the Metro Court Gardens the whole time and reported back to Sonny that Ric met with Ava. When Sonny asked Ric where he was at that time, he lied and said he had to meet with someone in the district attorney's office.

Since Sonny is sleeping with the district attorney, he was able to confirm that Ric was lying, which means Sonny doesn't trust his brother again. Things had been going so well too. We can see Ric being surprised when Sonny suddenly turns on him for apparently no reason.

That could only lead to trouble for Ric and from Ric, which means trouble for Ric and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). This would happen just when Liz is starting to trust Ric again and wants to go away with him. Will Sonny learn the truth (whatever the truth is) and apologize to Ric before it's too late or will the brothers spend another decade on the outs?
