General Hospital star Adrian Anchondo has been in the national spotlight lately after he and Days of Our Lives star Colton Little revealed they were in a real-life romantic relationship.
Their news made headlines on Entertainment Weekly and several other mainstream publications that cover celebrities. Part of the hook for the story is that both play gay characterson their soaps who are also in happy same-sex relationships, coming in the wake of the viral hit TV series Heated Rivalry, which depicts two male hockey players on different teams falling for each other.
Anchondo discussed this and a lot more in a video interview with James Lott Jr. on Lott’s GH Dirty Deeds media channel on YouTube. They joked that iconic soap stars who have been on soaps for decades have a hard time getting coverage on Entertainment Weekly.
General Hospital star appreciates the opportunities the show has given him

Anchondo said he and Little have a lot of support from their fans.
“It’s so lovely and so beautiful to see people want to be your cheerleader," Anchondo told Lott. "They want to see love win. They need a happy story right now with everything that’s going on. It definitely does add some pressure when you announce anything in your personal life. It feels like people own a piece of you. All I can do in my own relationship is be true to myself and us and constantly work at it, and be the best we can for each other.”
The General Hospital star expressed gratitude at his unexpected real-life pairing, and that he and Little see the extra attention as a positive.
“We’re going to be great," Anchondo said. "It’s also very interesting to see two soap actors on different shows meet. A lot of great things happened from General Hospital. That was one of the surprises. It happened because I was on a soap opera that we ended up meeting.”
Anchondo posted a similar message recently to his Instagram Stories.
"I didn’t realize when I posted pics of our trip, how much people would respond to my happiness. I’ve posted pics of us together in the past, so it wasn’t meanto be an official announcement… Seeing how much people are celebrating shows me how much people need a happy ending for this terrible year. And even more how much people want to lift up queer voice and stories on screen and behind the scenes. Thank you for all the sweet messages/comments and for reminding me that even through the darkest times, love will always shine brightest.”

Anchondo and Lott talked a lot about representation for gay people and Latinos in culture and protecting their rights. They shared some thoughtful insights about current events.
Anchondo praises his General Hospital costars
In less serious parts of the interview, which lasted more than an hour, Anchondo discussed his relationships with several of his General Hospital castmates, including Van Hansis, who plays Marco’s boyfriend Lucas Jones; and Carlo Rota, who plays Marco’s father, baddie Jenz Sidwell.
Anchondo recounted how he first met Hansis 20 years ago and how easy he is to work with now. “He is so giving as an actor. A lot of acotrs don’t know how to listen, they just say their lines and move on.”
Anchondo teased a scene between them that hasn’t aired yet on General Hospital, but what he called an emotional scene that drew a big reaction from the crew in the studio. “It was special because it was two actors listening to each other and taking care of each other.”
Of Rota, Anchondo had lots of praise for his General Hospital dad, saying “Carlo makes me excited to go to work. He never has a bad day and if he does he’s not letting it seep through his performance or letting it taint any of the energy in the room. He always makes such interesting choices. He does the mustache twirling without doing it. He finds different ways to make the character so lovable.”
Anchondo gave his insights into Marco’s motivations in the interview. He said he was glad it took several months for the viewers to see Marco’s dark side and him working hand in hand with his father.
Anchondo added: “I do feel that Marco is still, deep down, a very good person. He’s motivated by his love for Lucas.”
Anchondo said he believes Marco is good at heart, and part of the reason he has a bond with Sidwell is because his father has accepted his homosexuality, a contrast from Marco’s late mother Natalia (Eva LaRue). He said that Marco regrets not being able to mend fences with his mother before she died.
“Sidwell, to Marco, even though he’s a villain to everyone else, he’s Marco’s hero," Anchondo said. "He was there at a formative time in his life. His mom rejected not only him but his sister (Blaze).”
Anchondo said he struggles to master the legal dialogue that Marco often has, while praising Rota’s wife, Nazneen Contractor, who plays Acting District Attorney Justine Turner for acting like a natural in her court scenes on General Hospital.
