General Hospital's Rory Gibson looks back on one year as Michael Corinthos

General Hospital star Rory Gibson is celebrating his first anniversary as Michael Corinthos in Port Charles, having debuted on the show on May 23, 2025.

Michael made a surprise appearance at the Nurses’ Ball, coming home from the burn clinic in Germany to whisk away his son, Wiley (Viron Weaver), after he performed on stage.

Gibson captioned his Instagram post, “1 year down at GH. Love this job. Love these people🖤.”

He included several photos in the post, leading with a selfie of him outside the General Hospital studio and the iconic outdoor sign at the entrance. He shared screenshots from GH episodes, most notably a happy moment between Michael and Sasha (Sofia Mattsson, who has joined Days of our Lives) after Daisy’s birth. Gibson also shared two posed group photos of himself and his castmates in the Quartermaine foyer, plus pictures of himself and castmates at fan events and spending time with each other outside of work.

He also showed a humorous picture of himself taking a nap on the courtroom set while wearing a suit, which looked like the episode when Daisy was born there.

Numerous General Hospital costars sent good wishes for the milestone, including Mattsson, Kristen Vaganos (Molly), Kate Mansi (Kristina), Sawandi Wilson (Isaiah), Jen Ray (Suzanne), Rick Hearst (Ric), Katelyn MacMullen (Willow), Braedyn Bruner (Emma), Tabyana Ali (Trina), and Josh Kelly (Cody). Hundreds of fans congratulated him and praised his work as Michael Corinthos.

Gibson took over the role from Chad Duell while Michael was off the canvas, being treated for serious burns in Germany. He has guided Michael through a tense and tumultuous time since he debuted on the canvas, winning a lot of praise from fans and critics as a top-flight recast.

He has shown Michael to be cold, calculating, and ruthless when challenged, but also kind and warm with his family and friends. Gibson was quickly inserted into Quartermaine history after the death of Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) and the battle over ownership of the mansion and the arrival of Monica’s sister, Ronnie Bard (Erika Slezak). He had memorable scenes with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), among others, during this storyline.

Michael has spent a lot of time in a fierce custody battle with Willow on General Hospital. Willow was gaslighting Sasha and threatening Daisy, enough so that she left town after giving birth to Daisy, denying Michael the opportunity to raise his new daughter. That has given Gibson a lot of emotional scenes to play.

Michael has been at war with Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), punching him, which helped make him a suspect in Drew’s shooting. Michael was at his house that night, and Willow tried to frame him for what she did. That has fractured his relationship with Chase (Josh Swickard), and they came to blows over it in the Q mansion.

Michael has guided Wiley through all the drama surrounding his mom and her trial. He testified at Willow’s trial. Then, after her acquittal, he faced further questioning and had to face the prospect that he would be charged with attempted murder.

Michael and Willow are in an amicable place now, but that won’t last if Michael suspects that she is responsible for Drew’s locked-in syndrome. Michael spent time with Drew this week, and it would be highly ironic if he figures out that Willow has been injecting him with the mystery drug.

Before the trial, Michael paid Jacinda Bracken (Paige Herschell) to be his alibi for Drew’s shooting because they had met and chatted earlier that night. That has turned into a real romance, and the pair has been supporting each other after the trial.

Michael and Jacinda are getting closer than ever. Gibson has played a strong romantic lead as the characters’ relationship grows, showing different sides of Michael as he balances the Corinthos steel with the Quartermaine charm.
