General Hospital star Sawandi Wilson celebrates his birthday

On General Hospital, things have been relatively quiet for Dr. Isaiah Gannon as he deals with the fact that his girlfriend, Dr. Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr), is pregnant with another man’s baby. In real life, Isaiah's portrayer, Sawandi Wilson, dealt with something more pleasant recently -- his birthday on March 22nd!

General Hospital star feels the birthday love

The official GH social media account wished him a happy birthday, and he appreciated all the support from the show’s fans. In fact, hundreds of GH devotees wished him a happy birthday, with some taking extra time to tell him how much they love his work on the show.

Wilson made an Instagram post of his own, thanking his fans for the birthday wishes. He included several pictures of himself as a kid. In one of them, he had his hand on his chin with a piercing, serious look, similar to the pose he used on one of his official GH press shots.

He captioned the post, “Feeling the love today. Thank you all for the birthday wishes.” He made a similar post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

On Instagram, bruckner730 added a lot of happy and heart emojis and noticed the similarity between pictures, both old and new, which read, “Happy birthday. So adorable, your pictures as a kid always holding your chin LOL. Wishing you many, many more birthdays to come -- have a great day. You deserve everything in the world -- have a blessed birthday.”

On Instagram, the user wynter_santiaga wrote, “Happy Birthday!!!! 🎊🎂🎉 Handsome Dr. Gannon, none of the characters receive any grace in their relationships.”

Social media response

Over on X (formerly Twitter), the user hollymm3, a fan of Isaiah’s and Portia’s relationship, wants Isaiah to help raise the new baby when he or she comes, saying, “Better get working on that nursery at the cabin.”

Another fan on X, keriWeeks16, hopes that Curtis (Donnell Turner) is not the baby’s father, and that Isaiah will get to enjoy being a dad, commenting, “I love you on GH! I hope that there was a mistake in declaring whose baby Portia is carrying!!”

JustJeanne444 had glowing praise for Wilson’s work, saying, Happy birthday to one of my all-time favorite actors on #GH. I hope you have a wonderful day filled with love and many blessings. I also hope to see much more of you on #GeneralHospital because your light shines so bright. Have a great day.”

Wilson has been on General Hospital since August 2024, portraying Isaiah’s transition from being an adventure-loving doctor who was held captive in Somalia to being a valued member of the GH staff.

Wilson was born on March 22, 1987, in Westbury, New York, a small village on Long Island.

He celebrated his mother’s birthday in November. Marlene turned the big 7-0 around the Thanksgiving holiday.

General Hospital's Isaiah is happily married

He married Anna Eilinsfeld in December 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Anna’s hometown. Anna is an actress who has a lot of TV and Broadway credits.

The couple became engaged right before he landed the role of Isaiah. They were living in New York at the time.

Sawandi grew up being a breakdancer. He still practices that art, which became an Olympic sport in 2024. He is a dance teacher who has taught dance workshops in Haiti and Spain. He later earned a BA in Sociology at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, near his hometown.

Before coming to GH, he had a key role in the series finale of Star Trek: Discovery, playing Captain Leto. He has also appeared on shows such as Bull, The House of Flowers, and Dudes.

In 2020, Wilson was in a short film called A Storybook Ending, which won an award for acting ensemble at the Las Vegas Black Film Festival in 2020. The description of that film was “When a black man accidentally kills a white cop in self-defense, the cover-up sets off a chain reaction of deceit, blackmail, and murder."

He also does a lot of voiceover work on commercials.
