The ladies of General Hospital have had quite a week. Two of them even have designs on DC, but getting there will be easier said than done. We are not even sure how one of them will find the time, but when you've morphed into a minx, we guess you can do anything. And the other one? Well, she may have finally found her calling...Then there is Maxie. She's picking up right where he left off, but with a bit of a graveyard twist.
Finally, we have Luke Spencer, who is one of those rare soap characters who has now been honored with not just one, but two tender memorials. We also have a thing or two to say about one of Luke's two namesakes and it's not pretty. So, let's dig in with those two scoops and dissect the week that was.
Willow wants to go to Washington

So, let us understand what just happened. Knowing she needs more time in her busy schedule to keep Drew both alive and incapacitated while she emotionally and mentally tortures him, Misery-style, Willow quit her job as a nurse. But by the end of the hour, Sidwell presented her with a career switch she is seriously considering, so we have a few things to ponder here.
First, this woman was just acquitted of attempted murder. On top of that, she actually committed the crime and has no idea how many people have been clued into this. Second, didn't she just quit her job because she had no time to work? And didn't her kids just arrive to live with her again for 40% of the time, which is a lot more time than just visitation rights a few times a month?
Willow has a whole lot on her plate, yet somehow she is going to find the time to torture Drew and take care of her kids while on the campaign trail and then traveling back and forth to DC. We guess that as a member of the House, the speaker will call constant recesses whenever he doesn't want to have to call a vote on something, so she doesn't have to be there that much, right? It's not like Drew ever did anything as a congressman. He was too busy walking or hobbling around town, hissing our threats and telling Willow what to do. Who has time for Congress? Certainly not Drew. And certainly not Willow, but nobody seems to care.
Alexis wants to save the world

Alexis was also in for a big ol' surprise when Laura told her she wanted to recommend her to the governor to take Drew's congressional seat. So, first, let's address the whole Criminals for Congress thing.
Drew was our first criminal politician, getting elected to the House of Representatives after serving time for insider trading. Since criminal elected officials are all the rage in America over the last decade, we figured we'd let it pass, but now we have two criminals wanting his seat. Willow just shot a man (although she thinks she and the mute man are the only ones who know this) and Alexis has killed multiple men. Heck, she even chained one of them to a gurney in her basement with a ball gag in his mouth just last summer. But here she is, ready to take Washington by storm.
And who better to drain that actual swamp of cultish criminals than Alexis herself, caped crusader for justice, who just let her would-be murderess client walk free? Alexis is always ready to take up arms for the little man and fight for our liberty and rights. She even took the city to court so that Olivia could nurse Leo in public. (Who can forget Mayor Lomax?) Our feminist crusader is everything that DC needs, and we wish she could go to Washington for good. She'd certainly do a better job at promoting women's causes than Willow.
Sidwell holds the power...or does he?

And this is where it gets super tricky. Sidwell is the puppet master pulling the political strings in Port Charles. He was pulling Drew's strings, he has Ezra in his back pocket, and has been blackmailing Laura into doing his bidding. He is the one who wants Willow to take Drew's seat and Laura is going to have a heck of a time trying to convince him to give it to Alexis. Can she convince him to let them engage in a little friendly competition?
Willow working so closely to Sidwell could also be much more fruitful for Willow than she believes — and much more fun for us. Can you imagine the level of unhinged we will see from an already unhinged Willow when she inevitably learns that Sidwell was the one who paid the judge to take her kids? Wait till she finds out he's also the one who had her killed. Sonny, Jason, Britt, Josslyn, and the WSB have been working to bring Sidwell down for a year. But our bets are on Wonder Willow and her trusty syringe. The best off-their-chain characters are the ones who have spent so many years being pure and perfect that nobody would ever suspect a thing.
Chase! CHASE!!!!! Get 'em, Wiley!

Now, a word for the worst cop on soaps aside from Days of our Lives' Jada Hunter. (Don't get us started.) Chase, you were told to be a good boy and stay away from the Drew shooting case. You already got demoted. Your lying, cheating ex-wife has been acquitted (despite actually pulling the trigger —TWICE). Your wife has asked you to drop it. Her Granny has practically threatened to make you a homeless man if you don't drop it. And you didn't drop it. Chase, sigh.
So, now Chase is going to have to face the music. Or, his face is going to have to face Michael's fist, and it will be well-deserved. Thank you, young Wiley, for taking care of our little Chase problem in the blink of an eye. Michael is going to be all of us on Monday when he takes a swing at Chase in the Q kitchen. This will be the second Michael-Chase fist fight in a month and we are here for it! Where's the popcorn emoji when you need it?
Maxie takes it all in stride

If there's one thing we know about Maxie Jones, it's that she's a no-nonsense fighter who rolls with the punches, rarely offers a histrionic moment, and picks herself and dusts herself off with nary a tear every time she falls. In that way, she is very much like her wonderfully precocious son, James, whom we want to adopt and keep for ourselves.
She woke from a coma, learned she had a heart attack, heard her dead husband wasn't dead after all (or so we think), and just went on with her day. Some fans wanted to see more of a realistic reaction, but for Maxie, this was a realistic reaction because that is who she is.
Now that Nathan and Lulu thing is just something we can't get into. We don't see the attraction, and again, we don't even know if that is Nathan. So, we have to be lukewarm about this. We want him to be Nathan, but there is clearly something more going on here than meets the eye. And if this is Nathan, he and Maxie HAVE to deal with any remnants of feelings they have, so Lulu needs to sit down and let it happen.
Spinelli is a whole other story. Nathan and Lulu kissed once. Maxie and Spinelli were raising a family together. That's a big difference and we can see why Spinelli is pretty much freaking out. However, he also needs to step back and just let Maxie deal with this. Yes, Maxie is resilient, but as she pointed out, she watched Nathan die and now he is standing there by his empty grave. The one thing we can hope is that Maxie will finally be the one person who notices that there is something very, very off with this man who may or may not be Nathan.
Luke and Laura...and General Hospital

It's 2026 and we can have a section in our General Hospital weekly review column we can call "Luke and Laura" — and THAT'S the power of soaps. We weren't sure what to expect from the Anthony Geary-Like Spencer tribute episode, as Luke already died four years ago and GH threw him quite a memorial on The Haunted Star.
However, his beloved daughter, Lulu "Cupcake" Spencer, wasn't there to partake because he was in her infamous four-year coma. And we thank GH for remembering that fact and giving us the perfect premise for a quiet memorial from the people who knew and loved Luke best. (We do wish that Alexis, aka Natasha, was included, though.)
Lulu randomly finding a photo of her dad and needing to finally say goodbye made perfect sense. She never got to mourn or grieve her dad, who was a constant in her life, especially during her teenage years when Laura was catatonic. Tracy took Laura's place during that time, so Lulu turning to her stepmonster made even more sense.
When a memorial can happen organically as characters go through their day, then it's a memorial done right.
It also hasn't gone unnoticed that Laura has been thinking about and talking about Luke more of late. She even admitted that he was the first person she wanted to call last fall when she found a dead Dalton in the trunk of her car. Laura just randomly thinking of him and walking into a church to talk to him was perfection and so very Laura. Despite the controversy surrounding Luke and Laura from day one, there is no denying the monumental impact they had on the genre. The truth is, we would not have even been watching General Hospital today at all if Luke and Laura — and Anthony Geary — didn't give us the soap opera love of a lifetime.
Till next week, Scoopers, when Luke's Laura has to make a major decision that Luke would not like at all.
