GH Best of the Week October 26 to 30: Jude Wants Phoebe, Jack's Body Turns Up, and Heather Crashes Halloween

General Hospital celebrated Halloween with a severed finger, a surprise visit from Jerry Jacks' offspring, and a dead body being uncovered. Anna finally confronted her past, Brook Lynn lost a husband and gained a potential custody nightmare, and Carly discovered that a dog was better at finding missing WSB agents than the WSB itself.

Meanwhile, Chase and Curtis continued competing for the title of Port Charles' Most Confidently Wrong Man, Britt enjoyed the benefits of anonymous romance before learning what she'd actually brought home, and Rocco and Scout discovered that young love is considerably less romantic when your brother threatens to tell your father. Just another perfectly normal week in a town where even the family pets are involved in criminal investigations.

Spotlight scenes

Anna and Valentin's session with Dr. Nichols was easily the week's standout scene. We learned more about Anna's early WSB years, including her privileged upbringing, her family's financial troubles, and her connection to Cesar Faison through his mother, who had been Anna's childhood nanny. Anna had spent years believing she was responsible for the terrible things Faison did because she was the one who pursued him in the first place.

Valentin helped her remember that she had been an ambitious 19-year-old who thought she could convince Faison to abandon his criminal life. He also admitted that he had forgiven Anna for exploiting his feelings when they were young. Watching Valentin become emotional as he explained that Faison was responsible for his own actions made the scene especially powerful. It was a rare opportunity for both characters to address something that had shaped their lives for decades.

The most affecting moment came when Anna finally said that it wasn't her fault. For a moment, she seemed almost childlike as she repeated those words and began accepting them. Finola Hughes and James Patrick Stuart were outstanding throughout the sequence. It was sad, revealing, and ultimately empowering, and it gave both characters something meaningful to carry forward.

Wardrobe MVPs

Brook Lynn takes Wardrobe MVP this week with a gorgeous black blouse covered in intricate red, gold, blue, and green paisley patterns. The oversized bow at the neckline adds a sophisticated touch, while the flared cuffs give the outfit a little extra personality. Paired with a fitted black skirt and knee-high boots, it's a striking look that manages to be elegant without being too formal. Even Tracy would have a hard time finding something to criticize.

Unfortunately, Brook Lynn's personal life isn't nearly as put together as her wardrobe. She barely had time to recover from her heartbreaking divorce from Chase before Jude Jacks arrived at the Quartermaine mansion claiming to be Phoebe's biological father. As if that weren't enough, he's Jerry Jacks' son, which is hardly the family connection anyone wants to hear when a stranger shows up demanding access to their child. Brook Lynn went from mourning her marriage to fighting for her daughter in practically the same breath.

The worst part is that Jude may actually have evidence to support his claim. He insists he never surrendered his parental rights and says he has documentation proving that he and Delilah conceived Phoebe through IVF. Brook Lynn has Tracy and Jason firmly in her corner, but that doesn't guarantee Jude will simply disappear. For now, her entire world is threatening to collapse around her, but at least she's facing the disaster in one of the best outfits we've seen all week. If there's going to be a custody battle, she might as well be the best-dressed person in the courtroom.

Best camera moment

This week's Best Camera Moment goes to the gruesome discovery of Jack Brennan's body in the nature preserve. Carly and Valentin followed Outback's trail to the shallow grave, where Jack's hand was sticking out of the dirt. The shot of Carly crouching beside the grave, staring at the decomposing hand, was wonderfully creepy. Between the fallen leaves, the exposed fingers, and Carly's horrified reaction, GH delivered a little Halloween horror without needing to leave Port Charles.

What made the moment even better was how they got there. Outback had already returned to the Quartermaine mansion carrying one of Jack's severed fingers, which certainly wasn't what anyone expected her to bring home. Carly and Valentin realized the dog might have found something important and followed the evidence straight to Brennan's final resting place. After weeks of speculation about whether Jack was dead, missing, or hiding somewhere, the discovery appeared to settle at least one of those questions for the pair.

Of course, finding the body creates an entirely new set of problems for Ava and Drew. They thought their shallow grave would keep Jack's disappearance a secret, but apparently nobody accounted for a curious hunting dog with excellent digging skills. Now Carly and Valentin have found evidence that could lead investigators straight to the people responsible. It was a terrific visual payoff to the mystery, and Outback deserves some kind of award for doing more detective work in one afternoon than half the professionals in Port Charles.

Observations, complaints & unhinged theories

Gio deserves credit for confronting Curtis about the possibility that Sonny was framed, but Curtis wasn't having any of it. Considering how spectacularly wrong Curtis was about Isaiah, you'd think he might be a little less certain about things he can't actually prove.

Chase has the same problem with Willow, defending her innocence so fiercely that he refuses to consider the possibility she's been manipulating him. Dante tried to prepare Chase for that very unpleasant revelation, but Chase wasn't listening. He's already lost his marriage defending Willow, and if he eventually discovers she really did everything Lulu reported, somebody had better make sure he's sitting down.

Who would have thought Britt would become the voice of reason in Willow's life? She warned Willow to stay away from Chase and pointed out that suing Lulu could expose even more of her secrets, which seems like fairly sensible advice for someone whose reputation is already circling the drain. Willow even admitted that ignoring the article might have been smarter, although that realization came a lawsuit or two too late.

Meanwhile, Britt was positively glowing after her anonymous encounter with Cracker Jack and insisted that keeping things anonymous meant he could never disappoint her. Now that we know he's Jerry Jacks' son and has arrived to claim Phoebe, Britt might want to reconsider that philosophy before she discovers just how much disappointment one Australian can deliver.

Rocco and Scout's secret romance is beginning to resemble Romeo and Juliet, complete with feuding families and relatives determined to keep them apart. Danny's reaction to catching them kissing certainly didn't help matters, especially when he practically declared war on Rocco right there in the stables. Considering the history between their families, these two might want to find a less complicated way to date. And perhaps somebody should give them a copy of Shakespeare's play, preferably one with the ending highlighted.

Drew casually mentioned Kevin Buchanan and The Llanview Banner while discussing how to generate favorable publicity for Curtis' appeal, giving longtime One Life to Live fans a nice little surprise. Kevin is a Buchanan, of course, and we've already had Nora Buchanan visit Port Charles, so it's always fun when GH remembers that Llanview still exists. Now, if Kevin actually shows up to help Curtis, that would be even better. Although considering the trouble everyone is having with the local press, he might want to bring a lawyer along.

Joe's questioning of Carly was giving off some serious Columbo vibes, especially when he pulled the old "one-more-question" routine just as the conversation seemed to be ending. He also has that habit of inspecting practically every corner of a room when he enters, as though he's expecting to find a murder weapon tucked behind the furniture. It's a nice touch that makes him seem like an actual detective rather than another Port Charles cop who simply waits for someone to confess. All he needs now is a rumpled raincoat and a wife nobody ever meets.

Epilogue

And that was the week in Port Charles, where Anna finally stopped blaming herself for Faison, Brook Lynn learned that divorce papers are apparently just the opening act of a much bigger disaster, and Jack Brennan turned up in pieces courtesy of a dog with an impressive nose for trouble.

Next week, Jude may discover that challenging Tracy Quartermaine for custody of a child requires considerably more than a birth certificate and an Australian accent, while Ava and Drew could find themselves explaining why the missing WSB agent was buried in the woods. Until then, keep your legal documents in order, avoid romantic entanglements with anyone related to Jerry Jacks, and check what your dog has in its mouth before asking it to drop whatever it's found.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams on Hulu.
