In her new memoir, La Lucci, his widow, known to millions of soap opera fans as Erica Kane, is sharing her thoughts on what it's like to be without her husband of 52 years. "The minute I fell in love [as] I did with my husband, I knew how vulnerable I was," Lucci told PEOPLE magazine. She shared that she was completely lost following his death. The words "isolating" and "alone" come to mind, Lucci says. However, the actress hastened to add that she had the most wonderful friend, and she remains grateful for the people who stood by her. However, the vulnerability she was feeling following her husband's death prompted her to keep pen and paper by her nightstand. When she had thoughts, she'd wake up and write them down. "I felt like half a person," Lucci recalled when she became a widow. She wondered if she'd ever step in front of a camera again. However, on December 15, 2023, the Daytime Emmy winner attended the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, where she reunited with AMC pals, and she accepted the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award. Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm, The Young and the Restless) presented Lucci with her bookend award. He was appearing on Y&R when he presented the star with her first statuette. Lucci was joined that night by her former TV daughter, Eden Reigel (ex-Bianca, All My Children), and co-star Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan, All My Children; now, Drew, General Hospital). Lucci is grateful to be spending time with her family, "especially my grandchildren," but grief manages to sneak up on her as it does us all. The actress takes an interesting path when grief arrives, which it does at times like the holidays. Lucci says that she chooses not to fight it when grief does rear its unattractive head. Leaning into happy memories of her life with Huber helps Lucci through difficult periods of time. "His words stick with me," the actress says. "He was really my rock." "La Lucci" will be available on Tuesday, February 3rd.
