Chris McKenna: Chris McKenna Speaks Out on His General Hospital Exit as Jack Brennan Drowns

General Hospital has sent poor Jack Brennan to that great soap in the sky. The show confirmed today that the character, played by fan favorite Chris McKenna, was the drowned body found by Charlotte in the Metro Court pool at the end of yesterday's episode.

Brennan joined GH in early 2025, taking over the part from actor Charles Mesure. Best known to soap fans for his portrayal of teen Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live in the early 1990s, McKenna also played the part of murderous Det. Mark Harding on The Young and the Restless.

McKenna brought a likable charm to the World Security Bureau station chief, who jeopardized his relationship with Carly (Laura Wright) by coercing her daughter, Josslyn (Eden McCoy), into becoming a WSB agent after she killed Cyrus (Jeff Kober).

Carly blasted Brennan for his betrayal, ending their romance in the process. After that, Jack entered a flirtation with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), who saved Jack's life after Cullum (Andrew Speakes) attempted to end it.

After his last scenes aired, McKenna took to X to thanks fans for their support during his time on GH.

"Hey, everyone," McKenna started. "Just want to say how moved I’ve been by the support you’ve shown me and Jack. As you now know, I left the show months ago, wrapped in June. I’ll say more once my exit interview runs. Until then, from the bottom of my heart- Thank You."

Soap Central was the first outlet to report a little over a year ago that McKenna, who initially joined the ABC soap as a non-contract player, had landed a contract role.

Their storylines didn't intersect, but last year, GH couldn't resist pairing McKenna and Erika Slezak (who played Ronnie Bard) in a scene together at Bobbie's. Slezak, of course, played Viki Lord Riley Buchanan on OLTL, who was the mother of McKenna's character, Joey.

Jack may be gone, but GH fans in the Long Island, NY area can see the actor later this month at an upcoming fan appearance at Governor's in Levittown. (Details are in the Instagram post above.)

Will there be justice for Jack Brennan? Ava (Maura West) slipped him a drug that was provided to her by Drew (Cameron Mathison). We saw a woozy Jack pushing buttons in the Metro Court elevator as he tried to gather his wits about him. Did Jack fall into the pool because he was drugged? Or did he end up there in some other way?

Are Ava and Drew guilty of setting in motion a chain of events that cost Jack his life? If so, might they go to prison? Or did he perish by some other means?
