General Hospital is celebrating a big milestone next month! In celebration of the show's 16,000th episode, the show has released a special video, which reveals the returns of favorites Finola Hughes and Steve Burton. Also, the show is welcoming newcomer Dean Grey, who's playing someone who's got a very familiar name!

General Hospital a huge milestone

"There’s nothing like celebrating a milestone with friends, family, and cake to cure a case of the Mondays," read the caption on a post from the show's official Instagram account, "63 years and 16,000 episodes later, we’re still going strong thanks to all of you! 🎂 Thank you so much for watching. 😊 📺 #GH16K #GH #GeneralHospital."

The video was scored to the tune "Angel Eyes" by ABBA, which was rather serendipitous for cast member Braedyn Bruner (Emma). "I was listening to ABBA all morning 🥹 Love this show, love these people," the actress enthused.

Hughes, who plays Bruner's TV grandmother, Anna, enthused in the comments' section, "16,000 epi’s!!!!"

It looks like pretty much the show's entire cast gathered for the on-set celebration that featured. The video revealed veterans Lynn Herring (Lucy), Laura Wright (Carly), Jane Elliot (Tracy), and Kristina Wagner (Felicia) being interviewed. Maurice Benard (Sonny) got some camera time, too!

As the camera pans the cast, we can spy Hughes, whose return to the ABC soap was teased by Chris McKenna (Jack Brennan). We also spied actor Dean Geyer (Glee), who, according to TV Insider, will be playing Tristan Roberts, a nod to late GH star Tristan Rogers (Scorpio).

Burton can be seen in the video, too. He shared on his podcast, That's Awesome, that he'd be back taping at the show in June. Lead times can range from one month to a month and a half (or longer), so viewers may see Burton on-screen in July.

GH through the years

GH debuted on April 1, 1963, as a black-and-white half-hour serial. In the show's early days, the focus was primarily on the hospital, as chief of staff Dr. Steve Hardy (John Beradino) and nurse Jessie Brewer (Emily McLaughlin) tended to patients while their personal lives were explored.

After airing for about a year and a half, starting in mid-1976 as a 45-minute serial, GH expanded to an hour. The show became a pop culture phenomenon. The November 1981 wedding of supercouple Luke (the late Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) was watched by 30 million viewers!

Soap Central congratulates GH on its 16,000th episode, set to air next month.
