Former General Hospital and The Young and the Restless star Kelly Sullivan has been cast in Ethan Almighty, a feature film, based on the story of a rescue dog whose survival captivated millions and helped spark massive legislation to protect animals.

General Hospital star Sullivan's travels to the big screen

Sullivan, who played Connie Falconeri and Kate Howard on GH, and Sage Newman on Y&R, is billed with some big names, including Sean Patrick Flanery (ex-Sam, Y&R), Selma Blair (Anger Management, Cruel Intentions), and Brandon Routh (ex-Seth, One Life to Live, Superman Returns).

The movie also stars Days of Our Lives alumni Finley Rose Slater, who played Rachel Black from 2001-2005, and Trevor Donovan (When Hope Calls, 90210), who played Jeremy Horton in 2007, a devoted pet advocate.

According to Deadline, Flanery plays real-life animal rights activist Jeff Callaway, who saved the life of a severely abused dog named Ethan, whom he found abandoned in 2021 at the Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville.

Ethan was emaciated and near death, and his recovery during months of rehabilitation became viral around the country. The attention led to landmark legislation in Kentucky called “Ethan’s Law” that enhanced protections for abused animals and led to tougher penalties for abusers.

Sullivan plays Susan Witten, a Kentucky state representative who led the charge to make the new law a reality. It is still in the state legislature today.

The film is produced by Arclight Studios and Hollywood Expansion Corporation. Sullivan shared the news on her Instagram account, showing the front page of the Deadline article where she is pictured with Slater and the other stars. She captioned it, “Looking forward to this!” while tagging the other actors.

Numerous fans congratulated her, including former GH co-star Lisa LoCicero (Olivia Quartermaine), who said “Yessss!!” with clapping emojis.

In 2011, Sullivan took over the role of Kate and Connie (previously played by Megan Ward), who were two personalities in the same body. Connie's cousin was Olivia Falconeri. Kate and Connie were journalists and publishers who ran Crimson and romanced Sonny (Maurice Benard) on multiple occasions. Connie met a tragic fate when she was shot and killed by Ava Jerome (Maura West). As she was dying, Connie drew the initials "A.J." in blood, which wrongly made A.J. Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) a suspect in her murder.

After leaving GH, Sullivan played Sage Warner on Y&R. Sage gave birth to a child, Christian, fathered by Adam (then, Justin Hartley; now, Mark Grossman), who is now being raised by Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). Tragically, Sage died in a car crash. Sullivan received a Daytime Emmy nomination for her Y&R role.

After her Y&R exit, she starred on the Tyler Perry series Too Close to Home for two years on TLC.

Sullivan has had guest-starring roles in several series, most recently in Never Have I Ever and Chicago PD. She had a starring role in the Nickelodeon superhero series Henry Danger from 2014 to 2020. She recently filmed roles in the upcoming movies The Deceived, a thriller, as well as a historical drama called Jesus Land.
