General Hospital guest star Caitlin Reilly, John's daughter, lands role on ABC show

Caitlin Reilly, daughter of deceased former General Hospital star John Reilly who guest-starred on a tribute episode to him, has landed one of her biggest acting roles to date.

Reilly is set as a series regular opposite Rachel Bloom and Rory Scovel in ABC‘s comedy pilot Do You Want Kids?

According to Deadline, the show is co-created and executive produced by Bloom and writer-producer Dan Gregor. The single-camera sitcom from 20th Century is about a married couple, Rosie (Bloom) and Alex Vasilescu (Scovel), who in one universe have a baby and in the other do not, and the many ways that huge decision alters their lives.

Reilly will play Michelle, Alex’s buttoned-up sister about to embark upon a late-in-life-Rumsrpinga, which is defined as a coming-of-age time in the Amish community. Usually, it’s teenagers who go through this phase, often leaving the Amish community for a brief time.

Reilly shared an Instagram post about the news, captioning it, “SCREAMING/CRYING/THROWING UP/I’m so so so so excited.” She added a tearful emoji.

Several General Hospital costars and friends of her father weighed in.

Kimberly McCullough (Robin Scorpio-Drake) said “Yes yes yes!!!”

Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) said “So much congratulations!!”

Kristen Vaganos (Molly Lansing-Davis) added “Iconicccccc.”

Many of her Instagram followers shared their joy. The user branhattan said “Caitlin 'Series Regular' Reilly has a nice ring to it.” The fan carbonsilicon said "Happy for you. you are a genuinely funny person."

Another, briana.wollenweber, said “Yeeeeeee!!! Congratulations!! I’ve been following you for years and I think you’re absolutely so freaking funny and talented."

An actor friend of Reilly’s, Guy Branum, joked “This is too much quality in one show. I feel uncomfortable."

Reilly’s father John Reilly played WSB agent Sean Donely from 1984 to 1995, and in brief appearances after that and on the General Hospital spinoff Night Shift. When Reilly died in January, 2021, General Hospital wrote Sean’s death into the storylines and created a tribute episode for him, with Caitlin playing his daughter, Annie, whose given name is Anna as she was named after Anna Devane.

In the episode, several of Sean’s friends went to Ireland for his memorial. They tested Annie’s loyalty to the World Security Bureau, setting up a mystery with fake disappearances, not only testing her skills but her decision-making as Annie refused to let them access secret WSB files. At the end of the episode, Annie was given a full WBS ID badge with her father’s badge number on it, and spoke on the phone with her mother Tiffany (Sharon Wyatt).

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest at the time, she said “It’s a super-special thing to be a part of. My dad loved being on the show so much and I am just so happy that I got to act with all of his old friends. We had such a fun day, and it was also very emotional and cathartic. It was sort of everything all at once.” She loved spending time with actors on set and sharing stories about her father.

Reilly’s recent credits include HBO’s Hacks and I Love LA, as well as FX’s It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives and Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Known for her comic talent, she has more than 4 million followers across her social platforms. On her Instagram and TikTok accounts, Reilly regularly shares videos of herself doing comedy skits and impersonations. She recently posted a video of herself with Jane Fonda.
