General Hospital star Giovanni Mazza has taken his music on the road again. Mazza, who plays Gio Palmieri, went to Cleveland and performed his violin at halftime of a National Basketball Association playoff game. From General Hospital to the NBAGiovanni Mazza performing at an NBA game in Cleveland on May 9 | Images: Cleveland Cavaliers/InstagramPalmieri played in Cleveland’s Rocket Arena on May 9 during a game in which the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Detroit Pistons. Based on videos posted by fans on social media, he played the same tribute to Michael Jackson that he performed at a Los Angeles Lakers game on April 21, including the hit “Smooth Criminal.”Mazza performed at center court, and for part of his performance was joined by the Cavaliers’ entertainment group known as the Scream Team. They posted several pictures and videos from the performance on Instagram, and the group shared a video of themselves working on their Michael Jackson moonwalk.Gio’s TV dad, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri), and grandma Rena Sofer (Lois Cerullo) “Liked” Mazza’s post on Instagram.A GH fan, kindsky25, said, “Love You With My Whole Life GIO, such a Talented person who I can't help but love.”The Cavs fan kmbev60 commented, “I can’t believe he was at our Cavs game. Thanks for bringing us the win. I sure wish I was there!!!”Will Gio Palmieri go on the road again? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostMazza’s real-life violin expertise has been a part of his Port Charles persona since the beginning. Gio Palmieri, the adopted son of the late Camilla Palmieri, played the violin several times on GH, culminating in a dazzling performance at the 2025 Nurses Ball when he played a medley of well-known hits on stage.Later, he smashed his violin onstage as he had just discovered that Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Dante were his biological parents, and his life had turned out to be a lie.Since then, the pride of Bensonhurst has only played the violin once, in the Quartermaine house at Christmastime. That was by accident after Gio’s grandfathers, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Ned (Wally Kurth), bought him a new violin and kept it secret, but Leo (Easton Rocket Sweda) found it and gave it to Gio.We haven’t seen Gio the character touch that gift since, as he has been trying to figure out what to do with his musical skills and his life in general. He eased back into performing in public by playing the guitar at the reopening of Charlie’s Pub, accompanying Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Jacinda (Paige Herschell) as they sang, with his birth parents watching and smiling with pride.A musical past, and future?Trina and Gio on General Hospital | Image: ABCSince then, we found out that Gio had briefly played in a Broadway orchestra. His Broadway friend, Michael James Scott, encouraged him to take up the violin again. And Brook Lynn is encouraging Trina to give professional singing a try. Trina told Gio she is only comfortable singing when he’s accompanying her, and he agreed to help her. We’re not sure where this is going. Whether GH wants to make Trina a pop star as it did with Chase (Josh Swickard) a few years ago. Or if BLQ wants to help her son become famous. There has been no announcement about a new Nurses Ball, but it has come up in dialogue recently. Maybe there is one if Gio and Trina perform together there, and Gio gets his long-awaited redemption. It could also simply be an avenue to have Gio and Trina become close friends, which could threaten both of their romantic relationships. Trina's boyfriend Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) is caught in the middle of Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) scandals and could find himself in danger eventually. Gio and his love Emma (Braedyn Bruner) have been free of conflict for a while, and every good couple needs a triangle occasionally.Either way, we’re glad we get to see the multi-talented Mazza shine on TV and on the court, and promote GH on other big stages.
