General Hospital star Kimberly McCullough, beloved as Robin Scorpio-Drake, has ventured away from Port Charles to take on roles behind the camera as a director! Now, she's embarking on a new project that's bringing her to the film world as a co-producer!

General Hospital, Robin and Romy and Michele

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a sequel to Romy and Michele's High School Reunion has received a green light. In addition to stars Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite; Will & Grace) and Lisa Kudrow (Friends), co-star Julia Campbell (Katie, Ryan's Hope; Courtney Capwell, Santa Barbara) is coming back for the new film, reprising her role as Christie.

There's another connection to the soap world. McCullough is on board as a co-producer. She sent well-wishes to producer/director Ted Federle on Instagram. "Congratulations @timfederle!!! Honored and excited to be by your side once again," McCullough wrote, "creating something truly special. It’s also not lost on me that the song Romy and Michele dance to in the original is my song for Jack 🐾 . I can’t help but think he might be behind the scenes doing a little bit of his magic. 🪄."

While the original film hit the big screen, the sequel will stream exclusively on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

In the original film, Romy and Michele attended their 10th high school reunion. They decided to tell some white lies to their classmates, hoping to impress them.

Also returning to the new film are Janeane Garofalo (Saturday Night Live) as Heather, Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) as Sandy Frink, and Camryn Manheim (The Practice) as Toby.

Remembering Robin

McCullough made her GH debut in 1985 as an adorable little girl whose arrival in Port Charles prompted her father, Robert Scorpio (the late Tristan Rogers), to put his plans to join his wife, Holly (Emma Samms), in Australia.

Robert soon learned that Robin was his daughter with his ex-wife, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). Viewers watched McCullough grow up on screen as Robin eventually took on young adult storylines. In 1995, Robin, a teen, watched her lover, Stone (Michael Sutton), pass away from AIDS.

Robin was diagnosed positive, but thanks to advances in treatment, she has gone on to not only survive but thrive. She became a doctor and married fellow physician Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson, now Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless).

McCullough has come and gone from GH over the decades. She brought her character over to All My Children in 2001 and to General Hospital: Night Shift, the GH spinoff that aired on the gone-but-never-forgotten cable network SOAPnet.

Her directing credits include episodes of Fantasy Island, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, The Cool Kids, The Connors, and One Day at a Time.

McCullough has won two Daytime Emmys for playing Robin. She last appeared on the show in 2021 when GH wrote the death of Sean Donely (following the passing of his portrayer, John Reilly) into the show.
