General Hospital fans have wanted Kin Shriner to return as Scotty even before his TV daughter, Kelly Kruger, joined the cast as Serena Baldwin. Now, Shriner is giving his fans an update on what he's been doing and whether or not he's up for popping back up in Port Charles.

"Ankle replacement 3 months ago," Shriner posted on X, formerly Twitter. "I am walking and rehabilitating. Stay tuned...not fun, but looking to work again !!!"

Shriner exited GH a little over two years ago when Scotty left Port Charles abruptly. Serena (Kelly Kruger) mentioned to surrogate mom Lucy (Lynn Herring) that he was living his best life in Florida, a likely nod to where Shriner has resided.

In addition to his ankle surgery, Shriner shared on X that he'd also had his knee replaced. A follower assured the actor that if he kept up with physical therapy, he could be okay.

"You’ll be fine as long as you keep up with physical therapy!" shared @SheLibraLady59. "I’ve had both knees replaced, and even though I can’t kneel, everything else is fine. 😊🙏."

"I just want to work rehab gets old," Shriner added in a post.

Scotty Baldwin is the longest-running character in soap opera history, who is still considered (by many) to be a part of the show's canvas. The adopted son of Lee Baldwin (the late Peter Hansen) was first introduced to the show in 1965, months before Days of our Lives premiered on NBC.

Actor Johnny Whitaker (Jody, Family Affair) originated the role of Scotty. In 1977, Shriner took over the part. When he and Genie Francis's Laura Webber were thrust into the forefront of the show's stories, ratings took off. The Laura/Scotty/Bobbie (the late Jacklyn Zeman) triangle was one of the key storylines that catapulted GH from not only the bottom of the ratings, but into a top-rated series, and a pop culture phenomenon!

Shriner made headlines when he exited GH at the height of its popularity in 1980 (while Luke and Laura were on the run) and joined the cast of the newest soap opera at the time, NBC's Texas, which starred the late Beverlee McKinsey. Texas was inspired by the primetime hit Dallas.

Jeb, Shriner's character on Texas, failed to spark; Shriner left the show and returned to GH just in time for Scotty to catch the bouquet at Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura's wedding.

Shriner came and went from GH over the years. He was selected by ABC in 1997 to headline the GH spinoff, Port Charles. After that show came to an end in 2003, Shriner began making return appearances on the hour-long soap. Scotty and Laura gave marriage another shot, but their second union ended in divorce, as did their first one.
