On General Hospital, Dr. Britt Westbourne and Dr. Lucas Jones went from not getting along to having common enemies and trauma. Lucas is mourning his love Marco, who he correctly believes was murdered by WSB Director Ross Cullum. Britt is still working with Cullum and Sidwell, so they give her medication to treat her Huntington’s Disease. Now, Kelly Thiebaud, who plays Britt, is speaking out about the dynamic with Britt's fellow physician.

Young doctors in danger

On the May 14th episode of GH, the doctors shared ideas as they drowned their sorrows over their common danger. They tried to come up with a way for them to tell Sidwell (Carlo Rota) that Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) killed his son, but couldn’t. Britt talked about leaving Port Charles without finishing the project, then succumbing to her disease, but Lucas (Van Hansis) convinced her not to. To honor Marco (Adrian Anchondo), who died because he tried to steal the medication for her.

"Because of all this stuff that happened, Lucas and Britt now share secrets, and they have gone through some pretty heavy experiences together,” Thiebaud told Soap Opera Digest. “It’s really bonded them together.”

Both characters can be funny and snarky when they want to be. Lucas is generally warm and friendly, especially to his family and others he cares about. Britt is often cold and rude but can show warmth and humanity at times, like when she comforted her surrogate son Rocco (Finn Carr) this week over Cullum’s shooting.

Britt now shows that warmth and lets her guard down with Lucas, especially in their most recent scenes.

“The viewers seem to be enjoying it, and I love that,” Thiebaud said. “I think they just have a natural chemistry, the two characters. It’s a fun dynamic, because they acknowledge that they hate each other, but yet they can’t stop themselves from liking each other.”

Thiebaud loves working with Van Hansis

Thiebaud said working with Hansis has made playing this relationship extremely enjoyable. She recounted how Hansis made her laugh in one of their first rehearsals together while they worked on an intense hospital scene with a lot of difficult medical terms.

“Van is just amazing,” she said. “Our relationship just blossomed from there and we’ve become friends outside of the show. We hang out often and have so much fun together. He’s just hilarious!” (Hansis loves the relationship, too, as he said in a recent interview).

Thiebaud hopes that Britt’s growing bond with Lucas causes problems with her current BFF and Lucas’s ex-husband, Brad Cooper (Parry Shen). Britt has told Brad some things about her work with Sidwell, but not that she knows Rocco shot Cullum. Britt not confiding everything in Brad, who has been her partner in crime since 2012, could lead to some memorable scenes between the fun and snarky friendship duo.
