GH’s Maurice Benard and Vanessa Marcil Made One Fan’s Dream Come True With an Iconic Birthday Surprise

General Hospital fans are fiercely loyal to couples long after they've uncoupled! One fan, in particular, Mabel Nieto Gonzalez, was celebrating her 60th birthday, so her daughter, lifestyle influencer Mercedes Gonzalez Mayo, made sure that none other than Maurice Benard and Vanessa Marcil, AKA Sonny and Brenda, took part in her mom's festivities!

"Months of planning this surprise for my mom @mabelnietogonzalez, and there was truly no greater feeling than watching her reaction and giving her the surprise of her life on her 60th birthday!" Gonzalez Mayo posted on Instagram.

Gonzalez Mayo is a New York-based fashion, food blogger, and content creator who has 1 million Instagram followers.

She added: "@mauricebenard & @vanessamarcilmlovesk I can’t thank you enough! Vanessa is an icon, legend, beyond genuine, and truly beautiful inside and out!⭐️ thanks for making my Mom's birthday dreams come true!

"My mom has been watching General Hospital since she was 13 years old!" Gonzalez Mayo continued. "For the last 47 years, she has tuned in every Monday through Friday and has not missed one episode. I will never forget getting home from school every day and having no choice but to watch it since it came on at 3 PM. My brothers and I low-key loved it though, and also became lifelong GH fans.

"We literally grew up watching Brenda & Sonny!" Gonzalez Mayo adds. "This was such a special moment for not only my mom but our whole family! Truly a memory we will never forget🥹."

Benard explained in the video that he couldn't be at the birthday celebration because he had business to attend to in Port Charles. However, he both sang happy birthday to Mable, and he sent a woman from his past in his place. That's when Marcil made her entrance, prompting the birthday girl, who was trembling with excitement, to cry out, "What? Oh, my God!"

Sonny has been paired with numerous leading ladies over the years, including Carly (Laura Wright), Nina (Cynthia Watros), Lily (Lilly Melgar), Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), and, recently, Justine (Nazneen Contractor).

While Benard has often quipped that Sonny's motto is to "love the one you're with," millions of GH fans, Gonzalez Mayo's mom, and others likely fall into the "S&B" camp. The duo's chemistry is, and always has been, off the charts.

Brenda betrayed her mobster beau by wearing a wire, hoping to entrap him into saying something incriminating. Sonny caught on to what she was up to, and he ripped the wire off her.

Despite this massive betrayal, Sonny and Brenda were able to come back from this. They've reunited and been torn apart time after time. The last time they were together was over a decade ago, in 2013, during GH's 50th anniversary year at the Nurses Ball.

No matter who Sonny might be paired with, Brenda is always going to have a special place in her heart -- and in birthday girl Mable Nieto Gonzalez's, too!
