Often, actors, especially young ones, exit General Hospital either to pursue other roles or continue their education. Folks assumed that was the case when Hudson West took Jake Webber away from Port Charles back in 2024. Now, the Daytime Emmy nominee is clearing the air on just why he left the ABC soap.

A New Car

West made headlines last week when he was seen on an episode of The Price Is Right. The young star won a brand new car! You can read about his adventure on the game show here.

The appearance prompted folks on social media to reach out to him to congratulate him on the vehicle and to let him know how much he was missed on the show.

That's when Hudson took the opportunity to clarify that Jake going off to art school and his leaving the show was not the actor's choice!

Go West, Young Man

"I didn’t want to go. They wrote me out," West responded to X (formerly Twitter) user mike savelli.

This came as a surprise to another social media user, Diane Spinelli, who wrote, "What? I thought you had other stuff lined up & had asked to leave. Now I'm double mad. Every day, there is a post wanting Jake back. I kid you not, every single day."

"Nope," West clarified. "I didn’t want off. It was their idea. I seriously don’t understand why."

Currently, all three of Elizabeth Webber's (Rebecca Herbst) sons -- Cameron (William Lipton), Jake, and Aiden (Colin Cassidy) -- are off the canvas. Lipton reprised Cameron, who is attending Stanford University on the West Coast, for a holiday visit in December 2024.

Cassidy took Aiden out of town in 2025 when he left Port Charles with his father, Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), to travel the world.

Currently, Elizabeth is in a slowly developing triangle with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Ric (Rick Hearst), and she is the head nurse at General Hospital. Herbst originated the role of Elizabeth in 1997. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. Steve Hardy (John Beradino), an original character on GH. He served as chief of staff at General Hospital for decades, until his passing in 1996.

Elizabeth is deeply devoted to her grandmother (AKA "Grams"), Audrey Hardy, GH's former head nurse, played by Rachel Ames.
