"It was never something I ever thought would even remotely happen in my life, but they did kind of create this role for me,” Appel told TV Insider. The actor read with Eden McCoy (Joss) when he met with the show. The daytime grind is grueling, but Appel has taken to the challenge like a fish to water. He has a background in theater, and he says the challenge of daytime excited him. Appel says that everyone at GH welcomed him to the show. He appreciated everyone going out of their way to embrace him. He can't thank everyone enough for welcoming him. "I have loved the experience so far," he says. While he and Bennett competed for the role of Joe, Appel and Bennett are pals from appearing in a Nissan car commercial for Hallmark. By the time Appel got to hair and makeup, the creative arts team on the show knew who he was thanks to Bennett. Appel teases that Hudson is a "shady businessman" whose motives remain unclear. "This guy is way cooler than I am, so it's been so cool to play him," the actor says. "I'm very lucky to be playing this character." Watch for Hudson to interact with Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), Chase (Josh Swickard), and Carly (Laura Wright). "It's been really exciting," he enthuses. Appel, Off-Screen View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAppel continues his role away from acting, which is personal training. He says that he likes to stay busy. "They’ve given me such a great gift here and a great opportunity," the actor adds. "I want to do them right and make them proud.”Time will tell if and when Hudson gets a love interest, but off-screen, he's happily wed to his wife, Bernadette ("Bernie"), in October. He describes her as his rock. "She has been the biggest support system in helping me with all my auditions and prepping me for all my scenes, so I really couldn’t do this without her," Appel raves. She’s not in the industry at all — she’s in medical device sales — so I’m very grateful to have someone that’s not in that world but then is so helpful for me in my career.”He says that being cast on GH as Hudson has been a dream job and that he's been loving every second of it!
