The Kids Are Not All Right (So Give Them Back Their Mom): General Hospital Two Scoops For the Week of October 26th

This week marks two years since General Hospital made the grave mistake of killing off a beloved, longtime character for no reason whatsoever. And that character's kids are suffering. Killing Sam McCall was an egregious error in 2024 and remains an egregious error now. And while we have definitely had our share of soapy moments due to this decision, we are lucky it's a soap opera because the stroke of a pen (or in 2026, a keystroke) can fix it. So, let's assess cause these kids are a mess.

Sam Didn't Have to Die

Let's first address the two-year-old elephant in the room. General Hospital decided that it was time to write Samantha McCall off the canvas for its own reasons, but there was absolutely no reason to kill her. And there was certainly no reason to do it in the method in which it had been done.

If Sam's car had driven off a cliff, if Sam's car had gone down, if she was lost SCUBA diving and presumed dead, that would have been fine. Sad, but fine. Instead, GH chose to give Sam a drug-induced heart attack and spend three episodes with loved ones cradling her lifeless body in their arms. GH apparently wanted to make it clear that Sam was dead-dead and not soap opera dead. However, even dead-dead on a soap doesn't have to truly be dead.

And here is why Sam must return.

Hot Mess Kids

When Sam died, poor Scout was just a little girl who knew in her bones something would go wrong when her mom agreed to undergo surgery and be a liver donor for Lulu. In fact, Scout was the only one with an ominous feeling.

Through the magic of soaps and SORAS, Scout is no longer a little girl. Two years later, she is a full-fledged teenager with an attitude and scheming streak to prove it. But she's a mess.

And Danny? Where do we even start? He was having trouble even before Sam died, as he was her problem child who she wanted to keep away from his father. In fact, in her will, she asked for Drew to raise Scout and Danny together. Now, Scout's dad is the problem for the entire town and Jason has stepped up in a big way after not allowing his brother to raise his son.

Instead, Scout's dad hates Danny and actually has a restraining order out to keep the siblings apart. That's how badly things have devolved over the last two years. But it gets worse.

Not only that, but Danny found himself getting into a host of antics with Charlotte Cassadine, his cousin and best bud, whose recklessness and scheming nature just got her sent to boarding school. The things Jason doesn't even know Danny has done will astound him if he ever learns.

Sam was raising another teenage boy when she sacrificed her life to save his mother. Poor Rocco is also a mess because he thought of Danny as his brother, but has now fallen for Scout, who he once thought of as his little sister before a soap affliction aged her.

This past week, Danny caught Scout and Rocco making out in the Quartermaine stables and threatened to tell Drew what's been going on if Rocco and Scout don't break things off now. Meanwhile, Scout keeps throwing Danny under the bus so she can sneak off and see Rocco. So, the kids are not all right. The kids are actually a complete mess. And that's because they need their mom. So...

Sam Doesn't Have to Be Dead

If GH wants Scout and Danny's mom to be alive, they just have to write it. While we roll our eyes at Days of our Lives' ridiculous back-from-the-dead plots where cells and organs can literally regenerate, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.

While GH does not have its very own Dr. Rolf, there is no reason one can't be invented with a few keystrokes. That means there is no reason to keep Sam dead.

And there is no denying that fans want her back. From the day the news of her departure broke, fans have been rallying online to either reverse the decision before it was too late or bring her back.

As the second anniversary of Sam's death and Monaco's departure approached, the actress's fans were quite vocal about their desire for GH to right this wrong. We know it won't be easy and it could happen somewhere down the line, but it needs to happen.

Sam McCall is a necessary part of the GH canvas. After two decades, she was someone you always expected to see and there is a hole in the show without Sam and Kelly Monaco.

The Possibilities

Two years ago on Halloween, Scout was waiting for Jason to take them trick-or-treating while Danny distracted her and their mom passed away. On Monday, Jason and Danny will remember Sam and the mom she was. But life has definitely moved on, as life does.

However, imagine a Sam return as things stand now. Jason is floundering without a real love interest since the whole Britt thing didn't work out and GH seems allergic to pairing him with Elizabeth, despite their built-in fandom.

When Sam died, she had just accepted Dante's marriage proposal only moments earlier. Now, Dante is falling for Elizabeth, the woman Jason once loved, but whose happy ending may never be written. Now, just imagine Sam returning to this mix... Oh, the soapiness of it all.

Around Port Charles

Of course, plenty of other things happened this week because GH seemed to pack it all in there before the Emmys. Right before the red carpet festivities began (Soap Central was there), Outback finally, FINALLY dug up Jack's dead body, which Carly literally stumbled upon. We're glad that is finally out there. How will this affect the possibility of poor Nina finally getting a facial and a manicure?

And that mysterious Australian Britt picked up at the Brown Dog? Well, he's none other than Jerry Jacks' son, which is just so strange to know because when the heck did Jerry have time to have a son and who is his mother? Did Jerry raise him during all his years wreaking havoc on Port Charles? Was he 16 when Jude was born? Jerry seems too young to be this man's father, but maybe time flies? We want answers and we want them now. And so do Brook Lynn, Chase, and Alexis, as Jude claims he is Phoebe's father. (So, it isn't Hudson after all.)

Poor Brook Lynn had quite a week as she stupidly signed divorce papers she didn't want to sign before learning she could lose the baby she thinks of as her own to her real dad. While we think Brook Lynn needs to teach Chase a lesson, perhaps a cooling-off period would have been nice before rushing off to the Dominican Republic to divorce.

And finally, Heather Webber is back, but for some reason we don't think she is Trina's stalker, which means that stalker is still out there...

Do you miss Sam? How do you think GH should bring her back from the dead? Sound off in the comments.
