The Mobster and the Mayor: General Hospital Two Scoops For the Week of June 1st

General Hospital

General Hospital's Sonny spent way too much time on his couch with his daughter and his dog rather than getting into the action over the last year. While we love his new digs, which was Valentin's digs, it's nice to see him getting out and about again in new locations, doing those mobster things he often does.

This week, Sonny came out of hibernation in a big way when he finally got the goods of Sidwell — or at least some goods on Sidwell. And our friendly neighborhood mobster did it with his law-abiding (most of the time) partner-in-crime. The Mayor. Our Laura — our forever badass heroine for the last half-century — did what she had to do. And nobody got hurt (yet), so let's dig on in with those two big scoops and unpack the week Pascal departed.

Sonny came home

Sonny may not have been home, but the Corinthos Coffee warehouse is home enough to us, maybe even more Sonny's home than Valentin's old home, where Sonny now lives. Of course, things are truly heating up at Valentin's other old home, Wyndemere, but more on that later.

The point is that Sonny has been in his element more and we like it. Sonny is the guy who is supposed to actively fight his enemies, not passively sit back and let them walk all over him, which he had been doing with Sidwell since last fall. While we love having Sidwell as a villain, it's time that our friendly neighborhood Port Charles criminal gets a win. That's how it's supposed to go. Sonny may be the criminal, but he is a criminal hero because this is General Hospital and that is how it works.

Luke's Laura is back

It's also nice to see Laura take charge and fight back, as well. It never sat right with us that Sonny and Laura, of all characters, would be hamstrung by a newbie bad guy in such a spectacular way. Since last fall, we have had to watch Sonny and Laura cower in fear because Sidwell had blackmail photos of them with Dalton's body. Since when would the old Sonny and Laura have just sat back and allowed themselves to be blackmailed for more than half a year? They wouldn't and that was the problem.

Now, Sonny and Laura FINALLY took charge because they are Sonny and Laura and that is what they do. Sonny and Laura have known one another for more than 30 years and he is one of her very best friends. Watching them work together has been glorious and is so much better than watching them quake in their boots together.

Enter General Hospital's Dr. Lucas Jones

Sonny and Laura even welcomed another member to their team this week when Lucas decided to put on that imaginary cape that Britt likes to talk about and play hero. When Sonny and Laura came to him about Pascal, Lucas finally knew that it was his chance to shine. He was going to avenge Marco's death, get rid of pesky Pacal, and even help Britt in an indirect way. What could be better, right?

And Lucas plays his part so well that we just want to give him a big ol' hug and a pat on the back, just like Britt. Good job, Lucas. Detective Joe (your new love interest, we are pretty sure) may have been annoyed with you, but the rest of us are impressed with Julian Jerome's son and Ava Jerome's nephew. Maybe there is a mobster gene in there somewhere after all.

So long, our dear Pascal

And this is where things get fun. We didn't have Josslyn facilitating Pascal's escape on our BINGO card, but that's just what happened. Lucas and Sonny have no idea the assist they just got from their niece and former stepdaughter, respectively. What was Josslyn even trying to do with that lamp? Did she plan to cut the power like she did the night of the blizzard now that she knew where she was?

Either way, that's exactly what Josslyn did, so while the Deception ladies were lifting their jaws off the floor over the idea that the little French butler killed the bad guy's son. As soon as those lights went out, we knew that Pascal would make a run for it, and that's exactly what he did.

We weren't sure where he would turn up, but in his own car was as good a place as any. We half expected the car to explode when he pushed the start button, but then remembered that Sonny needed him. And Sonny was right there, with the wires to make sure that Pascal's car didn't explode, but also didn't start. Cause that's what a hands-on mobster does.

Just the sight of Pascal shaking and sneering in the chair as Lucas, Laura, and Sonny surrounded him was enough to make us literally lol. That's definitely not the trio Pascal expected, but nothing seemed to be going his way. We also should have known that when Pascal lamented to Josslyn that he was stuck on this stupid rock with murky waters, that he'd be returning to a tropical paradise soon. Bon voyage, Pasal...

Who is Z? What is Z? Why is Z?

Everyone seems to be working some kind of angle to bring down Sidwell and Cullum, but because nobody is communicating with each other, not much is getting accomplished. Britt decided to communicate to Sonny and that's how he and Laura got their blackmail photos. Now, if Carly had communicated to Sonny that Josslyn is missing and she's been living with Valentin Cassadine for the last six months, then maybe they could have gotten further in their mission.

As it is, Jack is sending Valentin and Carly to Wyndemere to search for Josslyn. (Isn't it fortuitous that is where she is?) But to get into Wyndemere, Valentin needs Z. We have no idea what or who Z is, and we also have no idea why he is needed to get into Wyndemere. Valentin lived there for years and knows the place like the back of his hand. He broke right in just a few short months ago, so we're not quite sure what the problem is here.

While we might be confused about Z, Carly made sure there was no confusion over who Valentin belongs to. He belongs to her and Nina can't have him. That is probably okay with Nina because something tells us she's going to end up with Jack.

Josslyn and...Cassius? Hmmmm... (Cringe?)

After Josslyn managed to cut the power to Wyndemere (again), she also managed to use one of Anna's handy tools and let herself out of her basement Yoga room. However, when she got upstairs, she thought she could just waltz out the front door because everyone who sneaks around Wyndemere seems to think that.

Of course, Sidwell was standing there with a gun and of course, Cassius came to Josslyn's rescue. As he argued with Jenz, Josslyn even left a calling card — her ring now firmly ensconced under the couch where hopefully Lucas (or Carly or Valentin) sees it.

Now, about Cassius and Josslyn. We're not quite sure where General Hospital is headed with this, but we're also not sure we like it. While Eden McCoy and Ryan Paevey have some sort of unexpected chemistry, the age difference is striking. Never mind that he was a cop in his 30s, ready to marry Maxie when Josslyn was an adolescent in middle school. If GH goes where we think it's going, we could be looking at another Sonny and Emily all over again. And we have no idea why this show would want to do that a second time.

Oh, Willow!

And finally, the viper. Everyone is onto Willow except Chase and that's cause Chase is just dumb at this point. There is no other word we can use to describe the guy. And we can't wait until he learns his precious school teacher is a would-be cold-blooded killer who not only shot her current husband twice, but also put him in that wheelchair via syringe. This is the girl Chase is about to blow up his marriage over. A girl who cheated on him when they were married, cheated on Michael, and is now ready to cheat again. Cause she's a viper and we're sure Aunt Liesl wants her bone marrow back.

This week, Willow completely disregarded Brook Lynn's warning to stay away from her husband and made sure to see Chase as much as possible. They enjoyed that swim in her strategic bikini that she just had to wear with her short shorts while visiting the Q mansion. And then she made that job offer and just touched Chase's arm...for no reason at all...

Well, Tracy is done and told Chase to pack his bags. And Brook Lynn is done, but she is done with Willow. And she is sending Lucy after her. Willow, you're finally going down.

Till next week, Scoopers, when Josslyn gets a roommate and Portia gets a baby shower. And we will say this now: Curtis. Stop talking.
