Why Cassius and Sidwell Are Needed on General Hospital

General Hospital is about to draw its cold fusion plot to a close in July, which means the bad guys have to be brought down. That's usually something fans look forward to, but when the bad guys are as entertaining and intriguing as Cassius and Sidwell, the downfall is bound to disappoint the audience.

Cassius Faison vs. Nathan West

As Cassius (Ryan Paevey) has said, Nathan was the man who could do no wrong, likening him to a Golden Retriever who will do anything the PCPD asked him to do. For some fans, that got a little stale. For months, Cassius had been masquerading as Nathan before Sidwell (Carlo Rota) revealed the truth to fans. When Cassius was able to drop his Nathan persona, he became so much more interesting.

Where Nathan was a bit stale as a character, Cassius has an edge to him that needs to be explored. He is an infinitely more complex character than Nathan ever was. He came to Port Charles to cash in on a project and be Sidwell's eyes and ears in the PCPD, but he's learned what it's like to be a part of a community and family.

As far as it stands now, Cassius does not seem long for Port Charles, which has fans disappointed. There is so much that can be done with him, especially once Nathan's loved ones learn the truth. A shades-of-grey character is much more interesting than one who is all good or all bad any time, and that is who Cassius is. Will he be written out in a way that leaves the door open for his return? We sure hope so.

Never Enough Sidwell

Jenz Sidwell is a rare gem, as is Carlo Rota. Sidwell might be ruthless, killing people right in his living room in cold blood without breaking a sweat, but he is also oh-so-fun fun.

We know Sidwell is going to have his final showdown with Sonny soon and get his comeuppance, but does he have to? Why can't we have more of his hilarious facial expressions, charming British accent, and quick quips and one-liners?

Soaps haven't had a villain as prolific and delightful as our dear Jenz in years. When soaps create a bad guy who is just this good, they need to find a way to hang onto him. Sidwell might be going down, but let's hope he can rise from the ashes again.

Do you want to see Sidwell and Cassius stick around Port Charles? Do you find Sidwell to be hilariously fun? Sound off in the comments.
