Football coach Bill Belichick has reportedly not been voted for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The new class for the Hall of Fame will be revealed on February 5, 2026. However, according to USA Today, Belichick is not part of the cohort as he did not gain at least 40 out of the 50 votes needed. Reacting to this news, football linebacker Willie McGinest told the media outlet:

“Some things are just a no-brainer. His work speaks for itself. We should all be judged on that. I think sometimes voters and people who aren’t really, really into the game don’t understand that. They just look at straight numbers. They don’t look at all the different things you did. When you look at his body of work, that’s when you have to look at all the different ways that he won, and with who, and how he won and some of the decision making.”

According to McGinest, people often don’t like too much success. As a result, they start hating. One Hall of Fame voter said they were not surprised that Belichick was a deserving candidate and confirmed that they voted for him.

Meanwhile, NFL cornerback Jason McCourty reacted to the news in an X post, where he wrote:

“I need someone to explain to me what a first ballot hall of fame coach looks like if it’s not Bill!”

Similarly, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux lashed out at the voters for not voting for Bill Belichick. In an X post on January 28, he wrote:

“I guess winning doesn’t mean much these days huh this might be the dumbest sh*t you will see! Has to be more behind this, but this will never make sense! Those voters shouldn’t have a vote ever again!!!”

J.J. Watt, LeBron James, and Matt Cassel also expressed their thoughts about Bill Belichick not making it to the Hall of Fame

Football quarterback Matt Cassel reacted to the news in an X post. He wrote that it was unbelievable and made no sense to him. He felt that Bill Belichick was the greatest of all time and clearly deserved to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He explained that first-ballot honors are meant for the very best players and coaches in the game, and Bill fully earned that recognition. Patrick Mahomes wrote:

“Insane… don’t even understand how this could be possible.”

Football defensive end J.J. Watt wrote that he was surprised by the news. In an X, Watt commented:

“I can’t be reading this right. This has to be some knock-off Hall of Fame or something, it can’t be the actual NFL Hall of Fame. There is not a single world whatsoever in which Bill Belichick should not be a First-Ballot Hall of Famer.”

Meanwhile, LeBron James wrote that he could not believe what he saw and thought it had to be wrong. He felt it was impossible and disrespectful that Bill was not chosen as a first-ballot Hall of Fame member.
